About the home

A perfect place to relax, enjoy the Sicilian countryside whilst appreciating the sensational sea views from every angle of the house. The accommodation has superb surroundings of olive groves and fruit trees. A terrace provides a lovely place to sip Sicilian wine whilst admiring the views. Great location in Sicily for families or a couple who like a large outdoor area where they are able to sit, relax and for children to play.

There is air conditioning in all the rooms except the ground floor bedrooms.

Sant'Ambrogio beach is only a short drive away from the accommodation and this charming village is near Cefalu and its popular sandy beach. Sant'Ambrogio is an hour's drive along the coast from Palermo airport and is near the beautiful Parco delle Madonie.

On the ground floor there is a lounge area with fireplace, a well equipped kitchen decorated with traditional ceramics, a large veranda with dining area and a comfortable corner sofa, 2 double bedrooms and a bathroom.

On the first floor there is a large double bedroom that opens onto a terrace with sea views, a small sitting area and bathroom. All rooms have fly screens.

A wide terrace surrounds the house and offers a lot of space to relax, play and park the car. The outside space also includes an outside kitchen with an old style wood oven, table and chairs.

The Sicily region

Sicily has been the golden heart of the Mediterranean from early time, many people invaded the island from Phoenician to Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Normans, and Spanish……leaving behind monuments and treasures to remind us of the past. The diversity can be seen in the different areas the Island of Morzia one of the oldest Phonecian settlements, Segeste, Selinunte, Valley of the Temples in Agrigento and Siracusa with its major Greek influence. In Palermo we have the perfect example of the Norman period with the Monreale cathedral. In the centre one of the most important villas during the Roman period is Roman Casale at Piazza Amerina.

In January, in the deep midwinter the average temperatures on the coast should still be hovering around the 10 deg.C . By February – March the days are starting to get warmer, although conditions in the mountains are still very wintery but along the coast winter is truly over.

April the wild flowers begin to truly explode all over Sicily and on the coast the first bathers start taking to the waters. The interior is spectacular, with the mountain slopes exploding in colour and the temperatures ideal for walking. By May the temperatures on the coast and in the islands will now be extremely comfortable.

June the first feel of summer by July the sea is the focus of the majority of tourist, the temperature is perfectly, at times quite hot.

August is the hottest month, Italian holiday time, people go the coast which become quite crowded.

September: Temperatures remain very comfortable everywhere, and the coast and islands retain that summer feeling, but without the crowds.

October is the most beautiful periods for country walking. Seasonal rainfalls help develop an astonishing variety of mushrooms.

The highest rainfall is generally in the month of November though the big storms that often sweep the Italian peninsula

In December the temperatures are around 10°C still have extremely agreeable temperatures during the days, though the sunlight hours are clearly at their lowest of the year.

The Cefalu / Sant' Ambrogio area

Located only 1.5kms from the village of Sant'Ambrogio where one can shop at the mini-market, eat at the Pizzeria or seafood restaurant that is located in the centre of the village.

The pebbly/sandy beach of Sant'Ambrogio is 2 kms from the house, there's free or paid parking nearby or you can park your car in the village and walk via the steps that lead to the beach (need to cross-over the SS113).

Ryanair flight daily into Palermo, Punta Raisi airport which is located 113kms from the village. The drive from the airport to the village is most of the way on motorway A20 Messina/Palermo, exiting at Castelbuono/Pollino and then taking road SS113 towards Cefalù, after 3 kms is the village of Sant'Ambrogio.

The ferry port is in Palermo which is 90 kms away and in Termimi imerese which is 25 kms away

Train station in Cefalù, where trains stop that are arriving from the mainland of Italy. Trains to Palermo arrive nearly every hour, with a travelling time of 50 minutes.

“Perfect location for our yoga holiday!” We run yoga holidays throughout Europe and were fortunate to meet the owner of this villa, Carmelina Ricciardello of the Sicilian Experience on our first trip to Sicily in June 2011. We were over in Cefalu looking for a venue for our expanding yoga holiday business. She showed us various villas and we decided on this one as it was the perfect location. Secluded enough for our group to practice yoga in the morning, yet a short drive to the nearby village of Sant Ambrogio for a picnic on the beach or coffee in the piazza and only a 15-20 minute drive to Cefalu, a lovely seaside town. Our villa was lovely and clean and with amazing views of La Rocca. Lunches and dinners were prepared by a local couple Rosamaria and her husband Pino. The food was out of this world! So fresh and delicious and Rosamaria was careful to cater for my food allergies/intolerances. Carmelina was a fantastic guide and showed us the real Sicily. Her guidance and presence made this an unforgettable Living Yoga Holiday. We highly recommend using Carmelina for holiday rentals but also for organised trips. She knows Sicily like the back of her hand!

“Idyllic” This was the first experience of Sicily for our 2 young children, so we were slightly apprehensive. From the moment we met Carmellina in the piazza of the San Ambrogio to be escorted to the villa we knew that this was to be an unforgettable trip. The villa is up a tiny steep road with amazing views of the coast below. The garden is secure, full of olive and fruit trees. We were free to help ourselves to any thing in season. The boys spent many hours exploring. The villa is well appointed, immaculately clean. The photos don't do it credit. Upon our arrival, Carmellina had provided home made olive oil, marmalade, bread, milk, butter and a bottle of local wine. The village is well appointed for daily provisions and it is a short drive to Cefalau for other shopping. We participated in the passiagta every evening in Cefalau. The highlight of our trip had to be the visit to Julio to watch him make cheese from his goats and the friendliness of all of the local people We plan to return next year as there is still much of the local area to explore

“A hidden gem for a fantastic holiday experience” A great hidden find which we found from searching on the internet. The villa looked great on the pictures and in person it did not disappoint. Its set on a hill with some great views of the local village and sea. It was easy to find following the instructions of the owner. The best bit is its not set in a touristy location so you really get to experience the real Sicilly as opposed to a standard package holiday. A great place for a family to experience some rest and relaxation. Waking up in the master bedroom for breakfast on the balcony with a great experience. Beautiful spot. The villa was really well fitted out with a good outdoor area and a high standard of furnishings, it felt like we were in a 4 star hotel. The owner's also included lots of day trip information and walks so we were never stuck for something to do. Overall a great experience and well worth booking.

“Unbelievable experience, this is Sicily at its finest!” I have been fortunate enough to travel to Sicily many times over the last few years and have fallen in love with this beautiful property and this part of the world. It is a true highlight in our visit to Europe each year. On this particular visit, my partner and I stayed in the stunning main bedroom on the second floor with breathtaking panoramic ocean views. The interior of the home makes you feel as if you have walked straight into a Vogue Living catalogue in the most exotic location. Not only is the crisp white interior visually stunning is so peaceful to look out over the ocean from most of the rooms including the main bedroom. The renovation to this property is one of the best I have seen in Sicily. Stunning details throughout including blue and white hand painted tiles in the kitchen and garden areas make you feel as if you are in a second home. The terrace overlooking the ocean is fantastic for alfresco meals. As you step onto the balcony you will take in the fig trees, olive groves, cactus and really feel as if you have jumped straight into a Frances Mayes novel. The location itself is fantastic for all ages. A bit part of the attraction each year is the town, Sant' Ambrogio itself. It is very dear to our hearts and as soon you arrive in the quaint town and meet the locals you will see for yourself! From Saro at the main bar (who always pretends its no big deal you have returned from Australia yet again) through to the delightful locals in the minimart, pizzeria and post office and the church bells every hour this town really has a heart of its own. If you are luck enough to visit in summer, I recommend attending one of their many feast days in the main square. The best way to describe this is a Frances Mayes novel, the characters in the town are too good to be true! There is also great shopping and nightlife nearby in Cefalu or simply hop on the train and head to Palermo for a day of shopping with all the best designer and high street stores. It really is the best of both worlds, without all the tourists.

“Wonderful Mediterranean views and extremely comfortable accomodation” Surrounded by well kept vegie and decorative gardens and nestled on a hill overlooking the sea - Deodata is the perfect destination for a holiday in a lovely village just outside of Cefalu. The house itself has two large bedrooms and a spacious living area It has inside and outdoor kitchen areas and is well stocked to ensure a comfortable stay for any visitors. The owner has included lovely books, TV and local ceramics - so for a short or long stay, you have everything you need!

“Idyllic stay with spectacular views in a great location” Arriving at Villa Deodata, perched on a hillside and surrounded by an olive grove and a small fruit orchard, the first thing you notice is the spectacular view of the Coastline below. This breathtaking view is something that can be enjoyed not only from the entire garden, but also from most parts of the house. I loved the house , which was very tastefully decorated by Carmelina ,the owner, who is dedicated to ensuring you have a memorable Sicilian stay, which I certainly did. A car is advisable so that you can explore the surrounding villages, and the quaint town of Cefalu, but then again you may just want to stay put and relax in the gorgeous Villa Deodata.

“a fantastic experience -- a beautiful place” My husband and I - along with 3 friends - stayed at the Villa Deodata in late September. The house itself is gorgeous with breathtaking views of the sea and the "Rock" in Cefalu. We also loved the locale, in the Park Madonie with lovely hiking trails, and near the small friendly village of Sant'Ambrogio. Our contact person, Margherita, was delightful and helpful and house was very well appointed. One day, we would love to come back. This ia very special place!
