About this location
The Yorkshire region
The Northern England / Yorkshire/Yorkshire Dales region.
The Yorkshire coastal towns of Whitby, Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington have been attracting visitors for hundreds of years who come to enjoy the miles of clean sandy beaches, pretty fishing ports and to walk along magnificent cliff top paths.
The picturesque fishing port of Whitby is noted for its narrow streets and cliff top abbey which dominates the skyline and is well known as the place where Bram Stoker was inspired to write his famous novel 'Dracular'.
Further south lies Scarborough which offers two horseshoe bays both with stretches of golden sands and plenty of amusements and activities; which are ideal for the perfect family holiday.
All along the coast visitors will be able to find a contrast of family friendly resorts and quieter little fishing ports which, all in all, offers something for everyone
Scarborough offers many different activities and attractions for the perfect sea side holiday with both the North Bay beach and the South Bay beach to choose from. South Bay offers a variety of activities such as amusements, gift shops, donkey rides and sandcastle competitions whilst the North Bay beach is a quieter area. Between them is Scarborough Castle which is perfect for any history enthusiast to gather knowledge about the history of this Castle whilst also taking in the breath taking views that surround it. The Rotunda Museum is also worth a visit for those who love to learn historical knowledge whereas those who love the history of art will enjoy visiting the Scarborough Art Gallery.
Scarborough's Sea Life Sanctuary and Marine Sanctuary is an ideal place to visit for the whole family with many different types of sea life to observe such as seals and penguins and also an interactive rock pool where you can touch the sea creatures! Feeding times are also shown of when you can go and watch them being fed. The Sea Life Sanctuary is a great place to go on a rainy day for adults and children alike to learn fascinating information about sea creatures. Luna Park Funfair is also a great attraction for the children to enjoy with a brilliant variety of rides. Parents can also have some time to themselves to enjoy the Stephen Joseph Theatre which offers many different types of productions.
After a busy day exploring all that Scarborough has to offer, why not eat out in one of the many high quality, award winning restaurants that the town has to offer with many locally sourced ingredients and fresh caught fish! There are also plenty of tea rooms for those looking for a little snack or a cup of coffee and pubs for those wishing to sit and relax with a well deserved glass of wine.
