The Goa region
More vacationers visit Goa every year then any other destination on the west coast of India. Why? Wonderful climate. A glorious history richly preserved in churches, forts, traditional homes, villages and its cities. Spectacular pageantry. Colourful festivals. Warm and gracious people. Superb cuisine. Goa is one of India's most laid back, yet sophisticated and exciting destinations. From miles and miles of sunny beaches, to the splendors of its quaint ciites, towns and cobbled alleyways, Goa is more than just beaches and sunshine. It's also the charm and magic of toxic resorts, a verdant green countryside, lush green forests and abundant wildlife topped with the legendary warmth and hospitality of the Goan people. And away from the beaten track, travelers discover a romantic and other-century Goa in its medieval small towns, and beautiful villagers, with rich flora and fauna. There is so much to see and yet at the end of it all you feel there's too little time. Between October and April there is unbroken sunshine with temeratures that rarely drop below 91F. The pace of life is relaxed. You can spend your evenings enjoying a sunset walk along the beach or a stroll through the street markets in safety.
A truly exhilarting out of this world experience that only Goa can provide. Whether it's fun adventure, sunshine, spirituality or just plain relaxation, you don't need to look beyond the magical land of Goa.
Goa has unique blend of Portuguese and Indian culture which is evident in its architecture, mix of religions, cuisine and social structure. There are the colonial old quarters, the magnificent Mansion Houses built at the height of the Portuguese rule and Old Goa, the old capital, built as a testament to the Portuguese wealth and power. There are wildlife sanctuaries, over 400 different species of birds, market towns, a famous flea market which attracts sellers from all over India, designer shops and why not come at Christmas and the Easter Carnival and enjoy some real Goan-style dance. The exuberant Hindu festivals of Divali and Holi are celebrated with as much enthusiasm by this multi-cultural and well-integrated society.
Cavelossim / Luisa by the Sea area
Cavelossim is located on a narrow peninsular on the one side is the peaceful, lazily meandering River Sal and on the other 20 kms of powder white sand beach and the Arabian Sea - - the perfect idylic retreat! It comes as no surprise that this prime spot has been chosen as the location for several five star hotels including The Holiday Inn and The Leela Palace, Dona Sylvia and Haathi Mahal. There is plenty of choice for eating out as some of the best hotels in Goa are located in the area and each has one or two international standard restaurants plus evening entertainment programmes. There are also a number of locally owned restaurants and there is always the barbecue at the shack on the beach.
For golfers there is a 9 hole golf course at the Leela Palace just 2 kilometres from Cavelossim. The course may be used by the hour at Rupees 450 or by purchasing a pass from 3-5 days ranging in price from Rupees 1400 - 4400 (all prices approximate plus 12% tax).
