Congratulations on choosing Cauterets!!
Welcome to my listing. Cauterets is a lovely, quaint resort in a great location for winter skiing and snowboarding, with a new beginners' area and a freestyle park for the more advanced. Good range of ski runs, also has Pont d'Espagne nearby for those who prefer ski de fond. It is also just 40 mins' drive from the neighbouring ski resort of Bareges/La Mongie by car.
Speaking fluent French and knowing many local people there, I will be happy to help you arrange your ski lessons, ski hire (with discounts) and anything else you need in advance. I'm happy to advise on bars & restaurants and local places of interest. I am also in the process of coordinating a taxi sharing project with other local property owners so will try to fit you in with another family or small group where possible if you need a taxi transfer from the airport.
Cauterets is also fabulous for summer activities including hiking, walking, trekking, mountain, rafting, caving and potholing. Beautiful scenery within minutes, at Pont D'Espagne, and within 30-60 minutes' drive to neighbouring areas. Early booking discounts available now.
Biarritz, on the Atlantic Coast is within 90 minutes' drive, Toulouse is 2 hours and the Mediterranean 3 hours.

The Midi-Pyrenees / Hautes-Pyrenees region

Stunning scenery and loads of activities, from pleasant walks to tough hiking expeditions, skiing and snowboarding in winter, mountain biking, rafting and numerous other mountain sports in summer.
A very 'French' area, with great local food and friendly atmosphere, not too busy on the roads (or on the pistes) - the area offers several ski domains and a purpose built mountain biking area with varying degrees of difficulty.
The Cauterets area
Cauterets is a friendly, lively place, tucked neatly away up in the rugged mountainous area just south of Lourdes. Its ski domain is unique in that it sits nicely in a glacial corrie, a parabolic bowl meaning all runs lead back to the one restaurant. This means it's almost impossible to get lost, and meeting up with family and friends for lunch or at the end of the day after perhaps skiing separately is easily achieved.
The town boasts several bars and a casino, though these are certainly not raucous or very late night affairs, but rather at the more civilized end of the market, suitable for the discerning customer.
Restaurants are numerous and of superb quality, I would be happy to send you in the direction of several of the best. All are friendly and have excellent service.
Overall - a beautiful, quaint, charming town with plenty going on both in summer and winter.

The apartment is ideally situated for skiing right in the heart of Cauterets. It has all you could wish for and more , we had everything to up knock up a couple of meals and chill out with a DVD after a full days skiing. Richard was very helpful and gave us a few tips, his advice was especially helpful using the car as a ski store next to the gondola a few minutes walk from the apartment. We walked straight on the gondola every morning and never had to queue once anywhere despite it being mid February. The skiing area was brilliant. We also skied at the small resort of Pont d' Espagna which was just a few miles up the road, snow chains required or there's a bus., it has one three man chair lift and two runs to ourselves (E48 for family day pass).( Cauterets itself is very quaint with plenty of eateries and shops. There is a couple of good supermarkets just around the corner from the apartment which we used daily. For information we drove from Toulouse airport which was just over 2 hours. Also look out for the family 2 and 6 day ski discounts. Response: Fantastic to hear - sounds like you made the most of it! The summer season is also magnificent there, hope to see you back again soon. All the best, Rich |

We have just come back after spending a week in Richard`s studio appartment in Cauterets and we both feel refreshed despite the long car journey back home. The location is very good indeed and it`s within easy reach of Lourdes airport. This is perfect for self catering with all the essentials in the kitchen area. Best to stock up in a larger supermarket but there are smaller ones in Cauterets too. There are some stunning walks with beautiful scenery (waterfalls, lakes , lots of wooded areas) and all within easy reach of the town. You can leave your car in the car park. People in the restaurant who gave us the keys were very helpful and friendly too. Richard has some great DVDs too which we watched on my laptop. All in all, very good value for money. |

READ THIS REVIEW from Louise, Kent, who has just stayed in the apartment (Jan 2-9, 2011)
"I’ve just returned from a great week of skiing in Cauterets, having booked the apartment through Richard. I have to say that it was absolutely superb and of a very high standard (yes the kitchen really is as good as it looks!) The best thing - apart from the fact that it is such good value for money - is the location. Being situated right in the heart of the town, everything was right on our doorstep, including some great shops, restaurants, bars and supermarkets. The cable car is less than a five minute walk away, and Richard was kind enough to arrange our ski hire equipment before we left; ready for us to pick up on our arrival (again, this was about a three minute walk from the apartment. Right next door is what we considered to be the best and most cost competitive ski school (Esprit Montagne), and if you are in need of lessons, ask for either Greg or Cyrille.
Getting to Cauterets was really easy as Ryanair now flies to Lourdes from Stansted, and BMI Baby from Manchester. The transfer took roughly forty minutes and we managed to take in some lovely scenery along the way. What I will say is that if you are looking for somewhere full of rowdy English people then don’t bother coming to Cauterets; this is a beautiful quaint town, offering so much charm and culture. In fact, we loved it so much that we have already booked for next year, for ten days instead of just the week this time!"
