The Languedoc-Roussillon region
The languedoc-roussillon region has been described by some as a well kept secret and by others as similar to Provence without the crowds and costs.
The climate is Mediterranean with lots of sunshine. The Aude has a rich and important history. It is where the Cathar castles are located and the impact of the Roman presence is Evident. There are many places of interest to appeal to many tastes. Hiking, antiques shopping, bike riding along the canal du midi, wine tours, many lovely villages to visit nearby. Day trips to other regions are possible.
2014 will be and exciting time for our region. The Tour de France will be coming to Carcassonne(20mins) . There will be a rest day here and the next stage of the race will actually begin in Carcassonne. For those who are really keen several stages will be within a day trip from Caunes Minervois .
In addition to information provided in the house a visit to the tourist office located in the Abbey is very helpful. Staff there speak English fluently and while your there go into the beautiful
Benadictine Abbey which was first built in the 8th century. Caunes is known for it's fabulous music festivals particularly in the summer months. Jazz and classical music being popular. Some of the nearbly villages to visit are Minerve, la Laviniere, siren, oolonzac, homps and of course Carcassonne. I would suggest you research what is unique about all of these areas in more detail.
