About the home
Kayana is a naturally practical and relaxing home base for the family summer holidays, close to the beaches, the mountain forests, the renowned 18 hole Korineum golf course and the bustling tourist town of Kyrenia, with its Roman harbour and Venetian Castle.
This is a 1910 Cypriot village house of thick stone walls and high wood beam ceilings set in a large walled garden with its own mirror pool and solar heated hot tub. It is private yet near to Catalkoy village centre with its cafes and shops. You'll love it.
Owner Michael was born on the Island while it was a British Colony, and the Kayana house has been in the family since 1973. Restoration of Cypriot houses is a passion and a business for him and much of the renovation work on the house has been done by him.
'' We enjoy living in the village amongst the locals rather than on an 'expat' holiday villa development, this way we feel the true flavour of the community and the island. However, due to its specific location on an escarpment and with access down a private alleyway, the house and the garden and pool remain secluded from passers by.
We live at Kayana ourselves ten months in the year, which is why you will find that ''at home feeling'' when you stay there yourselves. ''

Further details
- A welcome pack with first breakfast provisions, wine, beer, fruit juice and drinking water is supplied.
- Jacky, our local manager, is available to help solve any problems encountered.
- The house is cleaned and the bedding changed weekly during longer stays.
- Pool maintenance and garden care are included in the rental.
- Change over day is flexible but we prefer Sundays.
- Departure time. The house must be vacated by 11 am.
- Luggage can be collected from the house later if your departure flight is in the afternoon.
- Arrival at the property should not be before 4 pm.
Conditions
- 25% of rental fee secures the booking.
- Remaining 75% of rental plus a Security Deposit, is payable 8 weeks before start of rental.
- The Security Deposit (SD) is £200 per week of rental.
- SD will refunded to you two weeks after departure, subject to a satisfactory inspection.
- Water charges and 200kw per week are included in the rental.
- Charges for electricity usage above 200kw per week are deducted from the Security deposit.
- Solar Hot tub use is suspended during July and August due to high ambient temperatures.

The Kyrenia region


The north shore of Cyprus is unique, stretching 90kms from the Karpaz peninsula in the East to the citrus groves of Guzelyurt in the West. The main tourist development is centrally situated around Kyrenia with its picturesque Roman harbour and Venetian fortress. Along the crest of the mountain ridge there are several spectacular crusader strongholds and a multitude of forestry tracks and hiking paths. The backdrop of the 1000mt mountain range, rugged and unspoiled, is a perpetual festival of light and colour changes. The building development is largely hidden among the groves of olive and carob trees that are so abundant on the narrow plain between the mountains and the sea.
The owner's, Michael and Viola love living there. Here is what Michael has to say :-
'' I love the proximity of nature all around me. Easy access to swimming, windsurfing, hiking, bicycling. In ten minutes I can leave the tourist bustle below me and be up in the calm of the pine forested mountains with the scent of sun warmed mountain herbs in my nostrils. or down at the secret cove, floating lazily in the warm crystal clear water. Come and see this place for yourselves.''
The Catalkoy area
Catalkoy village is situated eight kms to the east of Kyrenia town on the top of a small escarpment which gives it a wonderful view down over the Olive groves to the nearby beaches. There are many good restaurants, shops and supermarkets in the vicinity.
- Swimming and snorkelling at sandy beaches or from the rocks. 10 mins walk.
- Play backgammon and drink Turkish coffee with the locals in the village cafe.
- Walk down to Sandy Korfez beach with its fresh fish restaurant. 800 meters away.
- Korineum Golf club,18 hole. Renowned throughout Europe. 20 mins drive
- Beshparmak mountain pass with its hiking trails, scenic forest drives. 15 mins drive
- In the mountains. Old Armenian monastery. Rugged Buffavento Castle. 30 mins drive
- Alaghadi Turtle Conservation beach where you can witness the hatching of tiny turtles.
- Water sports, tandem paragliding, scuba diving and boat cruises all available in the area.
- Excellent fishing along the rocky sections of the coastline.
- Mountain biking along shady tracks in the mountains.

Nous avons passé deux semaines dans la maison de Michael et Viola. ....Des vacances dépaysantes et régénérantes ..... la maison est très confortable, de l’équipement à la literie, tout est parfait. Les espaces sont conséquents et l’architecture intérieure est en accord avec l’extérieur de la maison.....Car l’extérieur, et à Chypre, c’est ce qui importe le plus, est des plus remarquables.....Une terrasse ombragée qui couvre l’essentiel des pièces à vivre du rez de chaussée s’ouvre sur un jardin paysager dans lequel figure, outre une végétation superbe, une piscine qui est en parfaite harmonie avec l’ensemble......Le tout étant situé à 10/15 minutes en voiture de plages idylliques ; il y a donc tous les ingrédients réunis pour qu’un simple séjour se transforme souvenir inoubliable une fois les lieux quittés.
