About the home

At Monte da Quinta we aim to provide a very high standard of country living and comfort with traditional architecture and modern facilities. Due to our high standards and attention to detail we are approved and officially licensed by the Ministry of Tourism of Portugal.

Providing Rural Tourism self catering accommodation for a maximum of 10 guests in 2 comfortably large, delightfully restored, self contained country houses set within 4.5 hectares of beautifully managed private grounds.

The farmhouse is furnished to a high standard. It has a large comfortable lounge and dining area complete with Wi-Fi internet access, Flat screen TV satellite channels, DVD player, and a iPod speaker dock.

A well equipped kitchen with granite worktops, a hob, oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, kettle, iron and a ironing board. Both bedrooms have en suite facilities, a walk-in power shower or bath, WC, and hand basin.

Double doors open from the bedrooms onto private side terraces. Double doors open from the lounge onto a private covered dining terrace at the front. For extra comfort this cottage has under floor heating for the winter months and cooling fans for the summer months. For your entertainment there are a variety of DVD's, books, board games, pens, paper and puzzles.

The farmhouse is finished with traditional white washed walls and beautiful brick arches. It has terracotta floors throughout with wooden shuttered windows, vaulted beamed ceilings and an open fireplace. This Farmhouse is single storey and built on solid rock and therefore the room levels do vary with one step between some rooms.

The house has immediate access to a private landscaped garden: a covered terrace, a further open terrace, BBQ area and access to the swimming pool.

REST ASSURED - Our holiday farmhouses were restored to strict guidelines which include: mains drainage, mains electric, solar water heaters, no gas appliances and our pool water is regularly tested. As a registered business we are licensed operators for tourism and insured for public liability. We are regularly inspected for health and safety. We are on site to assist, manage and maintain the standards at Monte da Quinta.

Fresh linen is provided and includes pool towels for the use at Monte da Quinta only. All towels are replaced mid week. Mid week housekeeping and linen change can be arranged for an extra cost.

A Guest Hamper awaits you compliments of Monte da Quinta includes:
Bottled water, regional wine and sheep's cheese, locally baked bread, buscuits, pate, butter, tea & coffe, milk, suger, fruit Juice and our fresh farm eggs. Champange on ice can be pre-arranged for your arrival.

We have a cot complete with cot linen, two travel cots and a baby chair. We are happy to provide these items at no extra cost.

We have Laundry room facilities with several washing machines and a tumble dryer.

Monte da Quinta postcards, small souvenirs, fresh farm eggs, local honey and homemade preserves are available for purchase from the farm office.

Various seasonal produce can be purchased on the farm including our Olive Oil and Oranges.

Swimming Pool – The uniquely designed and recently completed non slip pool measures 11.5 x 5 meters with roman end. The pool is situated within the landscaped areas to the front of the two rentable cottages, with its elevated position providing a fantastic vantage point for the stunning southerly views. The pool uses a balance of natural salt rather than or chemical chlorines, the water contains approximately 10 percent the salt level of ocean water.

Children’s Shallow Play Pool – Incorporated in the main pool is a 4 meter circular shallow children’s play pool.

Pool Terrace – Special non slip pavers surround the pool area. Ample loungers, sun shades and seating are provided.

There are two adult size bikes for guest use. We have a boules court within our grounds, sets of boules for children and adults to use. Buckets, spades and sun shades for a day at the beach. We hire beach towels daily and tennis rackets for a game at our nearby court.

Change over days are set for Saturday during July & August.
Payment - We require your 40% non refundable deposit when making your reservation. Reservations are not guaranteed until we are in receipt of your deposit. The balance must be received 6 weeks prior to your arrival. All bookings made within 4 weeks of arrival must be paid in full.

Minimum Age - It is our policy that persons staying at Monte da Quinta must be a minimum of 21 years of age unless accompanied by an adult

The Alentejo region

5 minute walk into Castro Verde town centre. To the north are the towns of Beja (the capital of the Alentejo province), Evora, Mertola and Lisbon; all beautiful towns and steeped in history. Lisbon, the country’s capital. Alternatively, it is accessible by train from Garvao, a short distance from Castro Verde. To the south are the towns of Faro, Portimao, Loule, Albufeira, and Tavira. All can be reached by car, bus or rail (to Faro).

Whites Lands
Although it is characterized by vast and sunny plains, with apparently endless wheat-fields, the Alentejo always offers new landscapes. The plains of Castro Verde, full of thousands of white flowers during spring, are excellent for walks by foot or by bicycle, and then you can fully appreciate the fauna and flora typical of the region’s flat lands.

This vast open space is chosen by white storks to make their nests. At the Monte das Azinheiras (Holm-oaks Hill) there are more than sixty couples. Bustards, hawks and vultures also prefer the solitude of the golden plains. Some streams create the ideal environment for frogs, salamanders and tortoises. The wild boar prefers the oak-plantations, full or acorns, or scraping the soil in search of truffle

The Castro Verde area

Castro Verde is an extremely well equipped town with several restaurants, supermarkets, cash points, a health centre and 24hr pharmacy and an open air market selling local produce. The town has boutiques, hardware and household shops. There is a post office, an internet cafe, night club, public swimming pools, a coach station, cinema and a cultural centre. There are also are two petrol stations within Castro Verde.

“Relaxing” This was our second visit to the property and we were not disapointed.The same wonderful heaven of peace and tranquility.Michaela & Nigel work hard to create a friendly and relaxed ambience. The setting is rural and peaceful but restaurants and supermarkets are close.Castro Verde center is at walking distance from Monte da Quinta.The are just over an hour drive. Casa Oliviera is very spacious,well equipped and beautifully decorated.The swimming pool is lovely and very clean. We particulary loved to sit on the large covered terrace enjoying the beautiful views. Florence & Patrick

“Best Cottage for years!” I like to start the review with a warm thank you to our renters! Thank you so much for everything! Our holidays in Monte da Quinta were a full success. The warm welcome, the cleanness of the cottage, the lovely placed gifts, the warm kind of manner during our whole stay till the end of our holidays without losing the distance! Thank you for all of your tips, especially the beach where locals spend their time! Even if I look for bad things I wouldn't find them. I hope we have the opportunity to come back some time. I will always remember your nice animals, especially the pigs, the crazy turkey und your funny geese, ducks and chickens. Be sure, that I will recommend this cottage to my friends and my family. This is one of the best places to stay in Portugal!

“Perfect!” We have just returned from a perfect 4 days at Monte da Quinta. The house was very clean and comfortable and we were welcomed with a hamper of great local produce including fresh farm eggs. We spent most of our time reading, swimming and sunbathing and the hosts Michaela and Nigel were very helpful in recommending things to do and see incuding a fantastic seafood restaurant right on the beach (1 hour drive away in Milfontes). We wanted to get out of London to relax for a few days in the sun and Monte da Quinta was perfect for that! It is a short 10 minute walk into the main village where we ate out 2 nights. The locals were very helpful and it was nice to be somewhere authentic not littered with tourists. The house is very well equipped and it was great to eat breakfast outside every morning under the shade before heading to the pool area in front of us. Thank you for a wonderful stay, it is incredible value for money and we will certainly be recommending it to others and quite possibly returning ourselves.

“An Oasis of calm that we had hoped for....” Upon arriving at Monte da Quinta we were warmly welcomed by Michela and shown to our cottage which was all we had hoped for and more. As we had a 1 year old with us Michela had set up all the comforts of home to help us with the baby, high chair, cot, playpen and plenty of toys and books. The cottage was clean and the beds comfy, the pool and surrounding areas beautifully landscaped to aid relaxation which is what the place is all about. The animals were also a highlight, we enjoyed feeding the pigs and chickens every evening before the baby went to bed. Look forward to returning soon.

“Perfect” The cottage was perfect for us - we have 2 young children ( 20 months and 3 months) and the owners went out of their way to make our stay a comfortable, relaxing and enjoyable one. The farm has a variety of animals - pigs, chickens, geese, ponies - and our young son loved feeding and visiting them every day. The cottage itself has fantastic views and the rooms are clean and very comfortable, The pool is wonderful - perfect for our son as it has a seperate shallow area. We were very fortunate to have the place to ourselves which really made for a very special holiday. The location is great too - only a 5 minute walk into a very sleepy but nice town, with coffee shops, restaurants and even a child's play area. We wanted a peaceful and quiet location and even got to visit one of the local vineyards which was great. Older children would enjoy the pool too and the Algarve is not that far away so if you were in need of anything more ' hectic' than the option is there. Would definitely recommend .

Two weeks of utter blissful relaxation in accommodation that stunned us from the start with it's beauty, space and perfect kind hosts.
We arrived weary at 1am and were greeted very warmly and shown to Casa Oliveira. It was so much more than the photos here show, and even in the dark took all of our breaths away. We immediately noticed the high ceilings with natural beams, attention to natural materials in all decoration and a large beautiful kitchen with everything needed and more to make self catering a treat. Our beds were very comfortable and the walk-in shower in the morning was powerful and spacious enough for two adults and an eight year old!
When we opened the beautiful wooden shutters and doors and went outside into the brilliant Portugese sun and onto the huge terrace the pristine whitewashed walls around the pool and between the two casas and the picture perfect sparkling cleanliness of the gentle salt-water pool water was also breathtaking. (In fact I noticed Nigel white washing the walls each changeover morning to make them as perfect as possible for all guests. That single example of personal attention to detaill provided at Monte Da Quinta illustrates the care that has been put into creating such a special place).
Then we explored some more and marvelled at the views which changed stunningly each day as the sun started to set in early evening. Thoughtful and diverse planting has created an oasis of green and even includes a hammock under an acacia tree beside the pool. That was my absolute favourite place to relax, read, play with my ipod (Wi-Fi!) and sip cool drinks during our holiday. With a charming farm to explore our eight year old has been asking us every day when we can return to play and feed the animals.
We would certainly recommend this property to all our friends and family and have already done so.
The location is great with it's proximity to an authentic Portugese town with excellent supermarket for self catering and tapas bar, cafes and restaurants a short stroll away.
The Algarve beaches and the West coast beaches are just over an hour away on very good roads. They can be enjoyed easily with free or cheap parking just about everywhere before driving back to a real gem of a town where local families and friends of all ages gather in the evening square to chat, laugh and to enjoy beer or coffee in equal measure.
