The Alentejo region
Monte da Quinta in Castro Verde is situated centrally in the lower Alentejo region. A perfect location to explore in all directions and just a short distance from either Faro or Lisbon Airport. The region is steeped in history and heritage sites. To the north are the historic towns of Beja (the capital of the Alentejo province), Evora, Mertola and Lisbon. To the south are the towns of Faro, Portimao, Loule, Albufeira, and Tavira. All can be reached by car on day trips.
Endless coast line of unspoilt coves, stunning beaches, estuaries, small fishing villages and towns. Take a walk on the wild side and appreciate the natural beauty of this coast.
Although it is characterized by vast and sunny plains, with apparently endless wheat-fields, the Alentejo always offers new landscapes. The plains of Castro Verde, full of thousands of white flowers during spring, are excellent for walks by foot or by bicycle, and then you can fully appreciate the fauna and flora typical of the region's flat lands.
This vast open space is chosen by white storks to make their nests. At the Monte das Azinheiras (Holm-oaks Hill) there are more than sixty couples. Bustards, hawks and vultures also prefer the solitude of the golden plains. Some streams create the ideal environment for frogs, salamanders and tortoises. The wild boar prefers the oak-plantations, full or acorns, or scraping the soil in search of truffles.
With its stunning views over the open countryside and just minutes to walk into the centre of Castro Verde this small farm with its country houses and private pool is ideally situated.
Discovering the coastlines and the historic towns is easy from this central location within the lower Alentejo region.
Rugged un-spoilt beaches along the west coast are within an hour and offer much to explore, water sports and the walking the rota vicentina coastal paths. Enjoy the fabulous fresh seafood grilled to order and sample the wines of the region. The Algarve is just 45 minutes away offering more glorious beaches, golf and aqua parks for the children.
Local activities include: vineyard tours, wine tasting and dinner, jeep safaris, motor quading and spa days. Stepped in history it is possible to visit historic towns and sites such as Lisbon, Evora, Mertola and Marvao
Delicious traditional cuisine with fantastic regional wines at incredibly low prices. We will recommend local restaurants and all importantly those that you can walk to.
The town of Castro Verde originates from a Lusitanian hill forte. An extremely well equipped town with several restaurants, supermarkets, cash points, a health centre and 24hr pharmacy and an open air market selling local produce. The town has boutiques, hardware and household shops. There is a post office, an internet cafe, night club, public swimming pools, a coach station, cinema and a cultural centre. There are also are two petrol stations within Castro Verde.
The heart of the "Campo Branco", the name given to the pale terrain of the Mediterranean ceral steppe is Castro Verde and all its well-preserved heritage.

Casa Oliveira ticks all the boxes for an idyllic retreat. Set in a lovely rural area this is true escapism for those that want it. The villa itself has been beautifully converted, is spacious and is rustically styled. There is lots of attention to detail with a powerful shower, pure cotton towels, lovely bed linen and a welcome pack of local produce when you arrive. The owners of the property are very friendly and helpful and on hand to ensure you get the most out of your holiday. Being the end house Casa Oliviera had a lovely open aspect from both bedrooms with french windows opening out to the open countryside. We particularly enjoyed lying in bed at night gazing at the clear, starlight skies before dozing off! Being inland it does get very hot in the Alentejo but there was usually a breeze and the pool was very refreshing. We did a fair amount of driving on our holiday but the roads down to the Algarve are very good. The fact this this is a working farm added to the experience and feeding all of the animals was very enjoyable even for adults. The wine is excellent in this area and very good value. Pure escapism from the rat race!

This was a second visit to Monte da Quinta and yet again everything was fabulous. The properties are spotlessly clean and well equipped. The outdoor areas and pool are the perfect place to relax in the sun, or the shade. The owners go above and beyond to help and are the perfect hosts. I cannot recommend this place enough - we have booked to return next year!

"Cannot fault anything, recommend to anyone beautiful tranquil place."
beautiful welcoming place, very tranquil clean and will go back time and time again. The hosts Michaela and nigel cannot do enough for you throughout your stay and the welcome pack is a lovely extra. The pool and the whole place is exceptionally clean and well looked after and of course the farm animals are a real bonus.
Here at Monte da Quinta we strive to make the quality and experience 1st class. Our aim is to ensure it is as good for the last guests of the season as it was for the first. Hope to see you soon.

"Peaceful location, great amenities & lovely hosts."
This is our 2nd stay & we will return. Monte da Quinta enables you to relax in the warm sunshine around the pool, take a dip or hide on the terrace, yet you are only a 5 min. walk into town, plus other interesting locations are within an hour's drive.

"Most relaxing vacation ever!"
Absolutely wonderful accommodation and facilities. Very quiet location, but supermarket 15 minutes walk and plenty of nice little restaurants and bars a 10 minute walk away. Not that we used them much as the apartment was so nice, we stayed there most of the time. Will definitely plan on a return visit!

"Excellent - exceeded high expectations"
We had read some very good reviews before booking Casa Oliveira at Monte da Quinta for our family holiday so had high expectations. We were definitely not disappointed. The house was beautifully designed, incredibly clean and fantastically well-equipped, with stunning countryside views. Our two boys, aged 8 and 5, loved the large saltwater swimming pool, as did we, spending many relaxing hours in it, or snoozing by it in the hammock or sun loungers. What really made our stay was the friendliness and helpfulness of our hosts, Michaela and Nigel, and their son, Bradley. They recommended days out and restaurants locally and further afield and couldn't have been more friendly and helpful whilst also letting us treat their home as our own. Their farm animals were another great source of entertainment for the boys, and feeding them our leftovers was a great way of reducing waste. We were lucky enough to have great weather throughout our two week stay, but would be very happy to visit again at any time of year. Michaela and Nigel have many return visitors and we're not surprised. They have done an amazing job with the conversion of the property - have a look at their photo album of the work they've carried out - and deserve all the fantastic reviews and guest comments. We hope to be visiting again soon.
Thank you once again for staying with us for two weeks. We would love to see you and your family returning to Monte da Quinta and dont forget our loyalty discount applies to you, your family and friends. Enjoy the rest of the summer hols, hope to see you soon. M x

"Beautiful villa in picturesque location"
The villa was spotless and very well equipped. It's in a beautiful setting and is very peaceful. We were traveling with our 6 month old daughter and so being able to use a cot and highchair was really useful. The villa is about 10-15 minutes walk into the center of Castro Verde where there are several restaurants and a large supermarket. The town itself we found pretty quiet, although the lack of tourists meant the restaurants were extremely good value. The coast and other major sights in the region are a bit of a drive away, but the roads seemed quiet and easy to navigate.
