Home description
At Monte da Quinta we aim to provide a very high standard of country living and comfort with traditional architecture and modern facilities. Due to our high standards and attention to detail we are approved and officially licensed by the Ministry of Tourism of Portugal.
Providing Rural Tourism self catering accommodation for a maximum of 10 guests in 2 comfortably large, delightfully restored, self contained cottages set within 4.5 hectares of beautifully managed private grounds.
The cottage is furnished to a high standard. It has a large comfortable lounge and dining area complete with a TV, DVD and CD player. A well equipped kitchen with granite worktops, a hob, oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, kettle, iron and a ironing board.All bedrooms (1 double, 1 twin, 1 bunk) have en suite facilities, walk-in showers, WC, and hand basin. Large doors open from the lounge onto a private covered dining terrace. For extra comfort this cottage has under floor heating for the winter months and cooling fans for the summer months. For your entertainment there are variety of DVD's, books, board games and puzzles.
The cottage is finished with traditional white washed walls and beautiful brick arches. It has terracotta floors throughout with wooden shuttered windows, vaulted beamed ceilings and an open fireplace. This cottage is built on solid rock and therefore the room levels do vary with one step between some rooms. The immediate landscaped grounds offer further covered terrace, open terrace, BBQ areas and access to the swimming pool.
REST ASSURED - Our holiday cottages were restored to strict guidelines which include: mains drainage, mains electric, solar water heaters, no gas appliances and our pool water is regularly tested. As a registered business we are licensed operators for tourism and insured for public liability. We are regularly inspected for health and safety. We are on site to assist, manage and maintain the standards at Monte da Quinta.

The Southern Plains/Alentejo region
5 minute walk into Castro Verde town centre. To the north are the towns of Beja (the capital of the Alentejo province), Evora, Mertola and Lisbon; all beautiful towns and steeped in history. Lisbon, the country’s capital. Alternatively, it is accessible by train from Garvao, a short distance from Castro Verde. To the south are the towns of Faro, Portimao, Loule, Albufeira, and Tavira. All can be reached by car, bus or rail (to Faro).
Whites Lands Although it is characterized by vast and sunny plains, with apparently endless wheat-fields, the Alentejo always offers new landscapes. The plains of Castro Verde, full of thousands of white flowers during spring, are excellent for walks by foot or by bicycle, and then you can fully appreciate the fauna and flora typical of the region’s flat lands.
This vast open space is chosen by white storks to make their nests. At the Monte das Azinheiras (Holm-oaks Hill) there are more than sixty couples. Bustards, hawks and vultures also prefer the solitude of the golden plains. Some streams create the ideal environment for frogs, salamanders and tortoises. The wild boar prefers the oak-plantations, full or acorns, or scraping the soil in search of truffle
Castro Verde area
Castro Verde is an extremely well equipped town with several restaurants, supermarkets, cash points, a health centre and 24hr pharmacy and an open air market selling local produce. The town has boutiques, hardware and household shops. There is a post office, an internet cafe, night club, public swimming pools, a coach station, cinema and a cultural centre. There are also are two petrol stations within Castro Verde.
Activities offered by Monte da Quinta: Quad bikes, Hot Air Ballooning, Archery, Helicopter trips, River Cruises, Off Roading, Paintball.
The Alentejo Region is a uniquely fascinating and beautiful place with much to offer: - Archaeologists - Ornithologists - Botanists - Artists - Cyclists - Golfers - Fisherman - Walkers And those that like to relax in comfort
How to get there
Faro or Lisbon Airport. A brand new toll road from Faro to Lisbon provides an alternative choice of route to Castro Verde. Both routes offer spectacular scenery through the Algarve and the Alentejo regions. 50 minutes on the new motorway the A2 from Faro Airport (toll charge is under 5 euros). An hour and a quarter from Faro Airport on the old road the IC1. An hour and a half from Lisbon (toll under 20 euros) Car hire is essential.

Further details indoors: Fresh linen is provided and includes pool towels for the use at Monte da Quinta only. All towels are replaced mid week. Mid week housekeeping and linen change can be arranged for an extra cost.

We have a cot complete with cot linen, two travel cots and a baby chair. We are happy to provide these items at no extra cost.
We have Laundry room facilities with several washing machines and a tumble dryer. We do ask a small charge of 5 Euros, this does however include your washing detergents.
Postcards, stamps and small souvenirs are available for purchase from the farm office.
Various seasonal produce can be purchased on the farm including eggs and oranges.
Further details outdoors: Swimming Pool – The uniquely designed and recently completed non slip pool measures 11.5 x 5 meters with roman end. The pool is situated within the landscaped areas to the front of the two rentable cottages, with its elevated position providing a fantastic vantage point for the stunning southerly views. The pool uses a balance of natural salt rather than or chemical chlorines, the water contains approximately 10 percent the salt level of ocean water.
Children’s Shallow Play Pool – Incorporated in the main pool is a 4 meter circular shallow children’s play pool.
Pool Terrace – Special non slip pavers surround the pool area. Ample loungers, sun shades and seating are provided.

Changeover days are set for Saturday mid and high season. Payment - We require your 40% non refundable deposit when making your reservation. Reservations are not guaranteed until we are in receipt of your deposit. The balance must be received 6 weeks prior to your arrival. All bookings made within 4 weeks of arrival must be paid in full. If you need to change your reservation we will try to accommodate, however if this is not possible we are unable to refund your deposit.
