This typical little Portuguese town house is located centrally in the sleepy side streets of the market town called Castro Verde.

Immediate access to all the amenities that Castro Verde has to offer. Delightful historic churches, communal gardens, public squares, cafes and restaurants. There are public tennis courts and two large public swimming pools within walking distance from Casa Branco. Markets and festivals are held throughout the year.

Eating out locally is extremely good value for money. Typically a two course lunch time “meal of the day” “Prato da Dia” including: bread, olives, a beverage and coffee costs 7.50 euros per person. A two course evening meal including: bread, olives, a good bottle of wine and coffee, costs between 40 – 50 euros for two persons. A coffee or tea and locally made pastry from one of our many coffee shops costs just 2 euros.

The Golden plains of the Alentejo are famous for their carpets of spring colour, with an amazing display of flora and fauna. This district is known for its abundance of migrating and resident rare breeds of birds. During spring we are visited by enthusiasts from all over the world.

With such amazing landscape there are many things to see and do. We can arrange activities like horse riding, moto-quad biking and jeep safaris. We have several local vineyards, a perfect way to relax and enjoy the delicious cuisine and regional wines.

The Alentejo region

Castro Verde is situated centrally in the lower Alentejo region. A perfect location to explore in all directions and just a short distance from either Faro or Lisbon Airport. The region is steeped in history and heritage sites.

Delicious regional cuisine and outstanding local wines at amazingly good prices.

To the north are the historic towns of Beja (the capital of the Alentejo province), Evora, Mertola and Lisbon.

To the south are the towns of Faro, Portimao, Loule, Albufeira, and Tavira. All can be reached by car on day trips.

Alentejo Coast

Endless coast line of unspoilt coves, stunning beaches, estuaries, small fishing villages and towns. Take a walk on the wild side and appreciate the natural beauty of this coast.

Whites Lands

Although it is characterized by vast and sunny plains, with apparently endless wheat-fields, the Alentejo always offers new landscapes. The plains of Castro Verde, full of thousands of white flowers during spring, are excellent for walks by foot or by bicycle, and then you can fully appreciate the fauna and flora typical of the region's flat lands.

This vast open space is chosen by white storks to make their nests. At the Monte das Azinheiras (Holm-oaks Hill) there are more than sixty couples. Bustards, hawks and vultures also prefer the solitude of the golden plains. Some streams create the ideal environment for frogs, salamanders and tortoises. The wild boar prefers the oak-plantations, full or acorns, or scraping the soil in search of truffles.

Castro Verde

The town of Castro Verde originates from a Lusitanian hill forte. An extremely well equipped town with several restaurants, supermarkets, cash points, a health centre and 24hr pharmacy and an open air market selling local produce. The town has boutiques, hardware and household shops. There is a post office, free wifi within the town, public swimming pools, a coach station, cinema and a cultural centre. There are also are two petrol stations within Castro Verde.

Festivals and markets are held throughout the year.
