The Algarve / East Algarve region
The Algarve is the Southern region of Portugal and with the remarkable beauty of its sea, rivers and mountain ranges is one of the best holiday destinations in the world. Castro Marim / Montinho area
The villa is situated within the pretty hamlet of Montinho, 2kms north of Altura in an area surrounded by vineyards and orange groves. Based in the eastern Algarve, the villa is uniquely located, allowing you to enjoy your stay in Portugal or visit Spain which is only 12 kms away. Within easy distance of the villa, lies the picturesque town of Altura where you can enjoy the beautiful, golden sands of Altura beach, stretching along the famous Ria Formosa nature reserve with its sand bars and inlets. East of Altura is Monte Gordo, a popular tourist resort with a brand new marina, excellent restaurants, bars and shops. West of Altura are the destinations, Cacela Velha, cabanas and the historic town of Tavira. Tavira with its multitude of churches and beautiful Moorish castle lies along the Gilao river. This atmospheric old town is popular with tourists and has a great choice of restaurants, bars, local markets and shops typical of Portuguese living.
How to get there
Most major and budget airlines fly to Faro airport, Lisbon and Seville airports can also be used as there are exellent road links to the Algarve. Faro airport offers a good taxi link to Altura around 45 minutes drive, at a cost of 60-70 euros. Car hire can be arranged at the airport and there is also an exellent car hire company in Altura village.
