Home description

The Castle Gardens House is situated in a private courtyard off the main street in the centre of this picturesque seaside village in West Cork. The safe harbour is ideal for watersports. West Cork is still unspoilt and has many beautiful coastal areas and places of interest to visit. It is ideally suited for touring counties Cork and Kerry. Castletownshend has an excellent pub/restaurant, Mary Ann's, only 50 metres from the house. There is also a village shop and a second pub and the market town of Skibbereen is only 5 miles away.

The County Cork region

West Cork is the western region of Cork County and has some beautiful countryside and peaceful picturesque scenery especially all along it's indented coastline. There are very old standing stones in the area and also ruins of forts and Castles. The climate here is very mild as it is affected by the gulf stream.


Castletownshend area

Castletownshend has the well known pub/restauarant Mary Ann's, a second pub and a shop. There is also a small community playground and an all weather tennis court.
Skibbereen 18 hole golf club is just 7 miles away and Bantry 18 hole golf club is 25 miles.
There are 2 boats that go out from the harbour whale, dolphin, shark, seal etc watching as well as taking people around the coast and fishing.
The safe harbour is ideal for sailing, kayaking, rowing and fishing.
The area is also very suitable for walkers and there is a horse riding stables about 20 miles away.

Castletownshend is situated on the coast 5 miles south east of Skibbereen in County Cork. Cork International Airport is only just over 1 hour's driving time away. It is advisable to hire a self drive car from Cork airport as rural transport is very poor. There is a bus service to Skibbereen which runs every 2 hours in the winter and hourly in the summer.
The N71 goes from Cork to Skibbereen and the R596 goes from Skibbereen to Castletownshend.
