The County Cork region

Castletownshend is a beautiful village in County Cork on the South West coast of Ireland. County Cork in the South-West Ireland is one of the most attractive holiday areas in Ireland. This area has a spectacular coastline of over 600 km. Cork is a region of scenic contrasts. The long indented coastline blends with spectacular mountains, and the many rivers and lakes combine with these mountains to give a landscape that offers much to the visitor.

This is a region where activity holidays play a large role in holiday plans. Long distance walking is very popular in the region, as are the many cycle routes. County Cork has hosted the Irish Open Golf Championships on a number of occasions in recent years. Ireland hosted the Ryder cup in 2006.
With such a long coastline sea and shore fishing is widely available as is excellent lake and river angling

Cork City was designated European Capital of Culture for 2005.

Castletownshend area

Castletownshend is steeped in history and is a fascinating place to visit. The large houses, dating back three or four centuries, are well maintained. St Barrahane's church is a must on your visit to the Village.

• 'Mary Anne's' situated in the village is a quaint old fashioned Irish Pub and Egon Ronay restaurant. The Warren art gallery in the restaurant holds several art exhibitions throughtout the summer and autumn.
• During the summer months there are local festivals every weekend. To mention a few, Castletownshend regatta and maritime festival in july, open air concerts at the amphitheatre in Glebe gardens, Baltimore throughout the summer, St Barrahane's church Festival of Music in Castletownshend throughout july and august and Rosscarbery's family festival in August. Late January - Annual Trotting Races
