The Castletownbere / Cahermore area
Knockreo East lies between the town of Castletownbere and the picturesque villages of Allihies and is within 3Km of the Dzogchen Buddhist Centre.
Castletownbere is one of the country’s premier fishing ports. The town has a selection of pubs and restaurants,
serving the best of locally landed fresh fish. There are a number of historic ruins in the Castletownbere area, notably Dunboy Castle built in the 13th century, home of the ancient local chieftain O’Sullivan Bere, and Puxley’s Castle dating from the 15th century.
Allihies is a picturesque village near the beautiful beach of Ballydonnogan. The Allihies Copper Mines Museum and Coffee Shop is located just north of the village, where the remnants of the well known defunct industry can be found.

How do we begin to describe the loveliness of Knockroe (pronounced "cunacroe" locally)? It's a perfect piece of Ireland in a quiet country setting on the breathtaking Beara Peninsula. The cottage is classic Irish both inside and out, with a cared-for yard and a charming gate and a narrow winding road passing by. The interior was cozy, impeccably clean, beautifully renovated, and very comfortable, with two bedrooms and two bathrooms--and Internet! Owners John and Joan were fun, kind, and helpful. The villages in the area are the Irish villages of one's imagination, with colorfully painted houses and friendly people. The air felt soft, and there was much to see. We loved our stay and hope to return someday. Rob and Mary Sand Killdeer, North Dakota, USA |
