Home description

The ideal location for walking, swimming, fishing, diving, sailing and to enjoy the beauty of the unspoiled regional environment. You can visit the Ring of Beara and the Ring of Kerry, both giving access to magnificent sea and mountain scenery and is endowed with archaeological and historical sites including the famous Healy Pass and Derreen Garden.

Inishfarnard is located in a quiet cul de sac in Eyeries village. Eyeries village with its panoramic sea views and spectacular sunsets is on your door step with shops, post office, cafe, friendly pubs, health centre and church. The local shops cater for most of your needs and the fishing port of Castletownbere is only 4 miles away for supermarket, fresh fish and local weekly country market as well as sea food restaurants.

Eyeries, a brightly painted and beautifully maintained award winning village overlooking Kenmare Bay, has been a location for a film, a mini series, and advertisments, namely Falling for a Dancer, Purple Taxi, and the Bord Failte advert. It is on the Ring of Beara route, and many of the Beara Way Walking routes. In 2003 and again in 2008, it won a gold medal in the All Ireland Tidy Towns competition and a silver medal in 2005. The whole area is rich in historical and archaelogical sites, legends and lore.

The County Cork region

The main features of County Cork include the long valleys of the River Blackwater, the Lee Valley and the valley of the River Bandon, with most roads generally following the river valleys. The county of Cork covers just less than 3000 sq. miles and the capital of the county is Cork City at the mouth of the River Lee.

In the county the last census indicated a population of just over 420,300. This amounts to roughly 12% of the Irish population. The northern part of County Cork has high mountains and is totally different in character to other parts of the county. The western part of the county is a highly popular tourist area, with its many miles of coastline and spectacular scenery. The populated islands of Cork are also located off the West Cork coastline. The islands are very special places and are well worth visiting for a day visit or longer break. Cork is also a notable and important dairy county.

Ireland is the most north-westerly country in the European Union and is approximatley 480 kilometres long and 305 kilometres wide. It is often battered from the west by the Atlantic Ocean and lapped from the east by the choppy Irish Sea.

Ireland's climate is influenced by the warm waters of the Gulf Stream, and is in the path of the prevailing southwesterly winds coming from the Atlantic Ocean. This makes for equitable conditions over the whole country and means Ireland is never exposed to extremes of weather.

Castletownbere area

For those interested there is a golf course in Castletownbere, a bustling fishing town only 6 km. away with plenty shops, pubs and restaurants. There is also a car ferry to Bear Island, it is definitely worthwhile visiting this beautiful island.

The highest mountain in Ireland, Carrantuohill in the MacGillicuddy's Reeks range, stands at 1,041 metres (3,419 ft) and is located in the south-western county of Kerry.
