About the home

Strand Cottage is a new house with all new contents. It is located in a new private development. It is tastefully decorated and includes Dishwasher / Washing machine / dryer / cooker / TV and DVD player. We have supplied a varied selection of DVDs, books and games for your enjoyment. The bedrooms are spacious and there are three WCs. It is situated on the edge of the village with shops, restaurants right on the door. The beach is only a 5 minute walk away.

Beaches perfect for all types of surfing

The County Kerry region

County Kerry is renowned the world over for its beautiful scenery, including Irelands highest mountain Carrantuohill (1,040 metres 3,414 feet) the Lakes of Killarney, it beautiful sandy beaches, cliffs and rocky headlands.

The Dingle Peninsula stretches Westward for 50 km (30 miles) from Tralee to Dunquin. the western end of the Peninsula has magnificent coastal scenery and is an Irish speaking district. Within the Pensinsula you will find old monastic settlements, famine houses, ring forts, ogham stones. It is a popular destination for both the energetic and the laidback personality with many things on offer such as hill walking, fishing, cycling, surfing, horse riding and many more combined with many great restaurants, pubs and quaint shops.

The Castlegregory area

The area abounds in beaches! The longest beach in Ireland stretches from the Maharees westwards through Castlegregory to Cloghane village – 12 miles in length. There is a Blue Flag beach in the Maharees. All of the beaches are sandy, and many are suitable for surfing and other watersports. The sea water is clean throughout the entire area.

For golfing enthusiasts, Castlegregory Golf and Fishing Club is located in Stradbally, just a few short miles from Castlegregory village.

In the Maharees area, there is pony trekking along the beaches, as well as scuba diving, surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, canoeing and waterskiing. Equipment and instruction are available locally.


During the summer months, a wide variety of entertainment is available, from currach racing to a week-long carnival in July. On summer evenings, traditional music can be heard at several pubs in the village. There are a number of restaurants, cafes and pubs in Castlegregory and the Maharees, offering everything from take-away to fine dining, with local seafood a specialty.

“Fabulous Holiday” We stayed in Caher place for one week in September. 2 Caher place is a lovely house, set in the centre of everything Castlegregory has to offer. We, 3 adults and two toddlers, loved not only the location, but how this house came with everything we needed. The house was fitted with all modern conviences, washing machine, dishwasher etc, but also the lovely owners supplied bed linen, towels, a great selection of DVDs and books! The house is located on Strand Road, a mere 4 minutes walk to the beach. Castlegregory beach is a lovely stretch of clean sand and calm waters, perfect for our toddlers to paddle and play on the beach. Castlegregory itself has so much to offer all different groups, particularly of the outdoor variety. 2 miles from the house is one of the longest stretches of beaches in Europe, where you can do activities such as surfing, kite surfing, wind surfing, horse treking, to name but a few. We will definately be returning to 2 Caher place.....my 2 year old wants to move there permanently! My only advice is for holidaying in Ireland in general....pack your wellies, rain coats, shorts and swimming gear...any weather is possible, any time of the year!
