About the home
This is a good opportunity to experience a summer holiday in Cigana di Sotto, a small traditional Tuscan farm set in the medieval walled village of Castiglione, which was recently voted as one of the loveliest villages in Italy. There are 2 roomy apartments rented together, sleeping up to 6 people in each in 3 bedrooms, perfect for a large group of family or friends. There is a large courtyard, good for eating outside with BBQ. The pool is large, at 14 metres by 5 metres, with a large solarium area and fantastic views of the spectacular Apuane Mountains. Castiglione is one of the main villages of the spectacularly beautiful area known as the Garfagnana, arguably the most beautiful part of all Tuscany. There are 2 restaurants, 4 bars and several shops in the village, which has regular fetes and festivals, including a fine medieval festival in August. There is a view of the ancient Castello from the farm. The farm makes its own wine, fine preserves cheeses and other dairy produce.

Tuscany is the most popular region of Italy, famous for its wonderful climate, landscape, and art treasures.
The famous "art" cities of Florence, Sienna and Lucca are huge attractions, whilst the culinary tradition is there to be savoured.
The Castiglione di Garfagnana area
Situated in the wonderfully scenic area in Tuscany known as the Garfagnana, the farm has fantastic views. The centre of the medieval village of Castiglione is only 500 metres from the farm, and the castle and walls can be seen from the house. Recently the village was voted as one of the nicest villages in all of Italy..

Outstanding outdoor activities are easily available in the region, and the local horse riding stables are only 10 minutes walk.
The area is also well known for its excellent value restaurants, using the best of local ingredients. A typical set lunch with 4 choices of pasta course, and 4 choices of main course costs only € 9 inclusive of bread, wine and coffee. It is possible to have a multi-course traditional Sunday lunch or dinner with ample wine, coffee and liqueurs for less than € 25.
Garfagnana is the best area in Tuscany for walking.
We have links with an outdoor activities company who offer guided walks and climbing, mountain biking, canoeing and world class gorge walking.
The local market town of Castelnuovo with good shops is only 6 kms away.
To reach the area you go from Pisa to Lucca, then North to Castelnuovo. Exact directions given.
