The Tuscany region

The Maremma, historically called Sienese Maremma, is the coastal plain which covers the province of Grosseto and extends from the Gulf of Follonica north to the mouth of the river Chiarone to the south, which forms the border with the Lazio region. The region is bathed by the Tyrrhenian Sea to the west, where you can see the southern islands of the Tuscan Archipelago (Elba, Montecristo, Ants of Grosseto, Giglio and Giannutri) and, on clear days, the silhouette of Cap Corse, the end of range northern Corsica.

The territory of the Maremma can be divided into three parts.

The three areas are interrupted by some headlands, from north to south, are the promontory of Punta Ala with Bandite of Scarborough that divide the sheep from the flat plain of the river dell'Ombrone; dell'Uccellina the mountains that divide the plain of ' ombrone from the plain of Albenga river, the Ansedonia promontory that divides the plain dell'Albegna from that of Fiora. To the east of the Maremma borders the mountainous territory of the Amiata, the territory that belongs to its western slopes (Arcidosso, Casteldelpiano, Santa Fiora, Seggiano) to the Province of Grosseto and the eastern slope of the Province of Siena.
