Home description
Podere Luce is set hidden approximately 10 km west of Castiglione del Lago, in southern Tuscany and very close to the border of Umbria. The property has been wonderfully restored by its present owners, the buildings original beamed ceilings and terracotta floors set the tone for comfortable furnishings and airy rooms, many of which enjoy the wonderful panoramic views across the valley to Montepulciano and Cortona complimented by the vineyards, olive groves, cypress trees and fields.
Podere Luce has three apartments and a separate house available to let. Each of the dwellings is furnished with great taste, gentle colours and outstandingly restored antique furniture from the family estate. The owners have furnished the apartments with beautiful cabinets, tables and bureaus partly from the 18 century and all of the kitchens include ovens, hobs and dishwashers. The baths are made from ceramics and the mirrors have been sourced from Deruta complimented by beautiful pictures and designs which decorate the walls. Each apartment has its own private terraced area so you can sit and relax at this wonderful property in true tranquillity. The property has a communal washing machine if required. The pool measures 7.5 x 15 m and the garden is generously equipped with beach chairs and sun loungers. The view from the house stretches across truly breathtaking scenery.
Podere Luce is wonderfully located for sightseeing in both Tuscany and Umbria, and golfers have a choice of three excellent courses all within an hours drive. Excursions to Castiglione del Lago, Orvieto, Città della Pieve, Cortona Todi, Florence, Perugia, Rome, Montepulciano, Assisi, Siena and Arezzo are all within easy reach either by train or by car.

The Umbria region
This secret Umbrian idyll is still very much unspoilt and offers excellent transport links to many of the delightful towns and Cities of the region. The location of Lago Trasimeno is excellent as surrounding area offers easy access to some of the most delightful places in Italy; Perugia (40 mins), Assisi (50 mins), Siena (1 hr), Arezzo (45 mins), Cortona (20 mins), Florence (1 Hr), Pisa (1 ¾ hrs) and Rome (2 ½ hrs).
Being large but shallow, Lake Trasimeno (at 128 square kilometres, the fourth largest lake in Italy) is a haven for a wide variety of birds and other wildlife. The lake is surrounded by a flat, alluvial plain, then a ring of gentle hills, where woodland alternatives with fields of sunflowers, maize, vineyards and olive groves. In fact, the economy of the area depends largely on agriculture, together with the local’s love of craftwork, notably the famous lace of Isola Maggiore, ceramics and articles in copper and wrought iron.
Castiglione del Lago / Petrignano del Lago area
The Trasimeno area is part of Umbria, but culturally and geographically it straddles both Umbria and Southern Tuscany. It contains features of both, being an area where the borders between the two regions is intriguingly blurred, in a language and landscape as well as in the flavours of its cuisine and its traditions. Umbria is located in the exact centre of Italy, at a point which since ancient times has been a meeting point for routes for travellers from central Italy and northern Europe heading for Rome.
The area is not a busy transit area, however but the kind of place that people stumble upon by chance, then visit regularly. There is no need to stumble across it, though, as now you have your chance to discover this magical region.
