LEISURE

THE VAL D'ORCIA NATURAL ARTISTIC AND CULTURAL PARK

In a valley full of enchantment, history, culture and tradition in the south of Siena province lies the Val D'Orcia Natural Artistic and Cultural Park. It is made up of five comunes: CASTIGLIONE D'ORCIA, MONTALCINO, PIENZA, RADICOFANI a nd S.QUIRICO D'ORCIA. The majority of the landscape is “a sea of clay”, as described by the medieval pilgrims who travelled up and down the Via Francigena.

HISTORICAL CENTRES

The concentration of architectural and artistic treasures is especially high in the Val d'Orcia. The urban and suburban buildings are distinguished by architectural and artistic decorations that date back to the medieval and Renaissance periods. As well as the cultural value of these major centres, the uniqueness of this area is made up of the presence of several fortified villages and small civil and religious settlements.

THERMAL SPRINGS

Set within a lush green countryside, BAGNO VIGNONI is a small centre of great interest, established around a thermal spring. From the medieval period onwards springs were already known for their curative properties. Now there are various paid thermal spas in the hotels in the area.
