The charming estate of Borgo Tranquiitta is surrounded by wooded hills of olives and bucolic charm that surround it like a natural garden enclosing the village in beautiful countryside with extended views of the valley and beyond.

Here are three, lovely detached cottages lovingly restored providing a great place for a family holiday,..

Le Stelle (stars) cottage is suitable for 4 guests. The cottage has two bedrooms (one double, a second with either twin or double), a kitchen and dining area, sitting room and bathroom. It has has a private terrace for 'al fresco' dining and the pool is just a stroll away.

The tiny hamlet's large communal crystal swimming pool has been idyllically positioned to enjoy the splendid views.

Each cottage has a small barbecue, however there is also a large stone "pizza oven" available. If you have seen some of Jamie Oliver's programs, you will have seen he uses this type of oven to cook various meals and not just pizza.!

Castiglion Fiorentino is about 8 kms. which is midway between the historic towns of Arezzo and Cortona. Lake Trasimeno with its pretty beaches is within easy driving distance.

From here you can relax, unwind and enjoy the lovely scenery - or, there are day excursions to Cortona, Arezzo, Montepulcinao, Pienza, Assisi and more. Wine is a famous Tuscan export and you can use some of your time here to explore the many vineyards or go on a wine tour (In English, French, Danish, German) and enjoy some of the superior wines Tuscany has to offer. Other activities in the area are cooking classes, truffle hunting and numerous festivals throughout the year.

The property sits on one of the hillsides overlooking the historic Val di Chio and is accessed by a white road. The beauty of the location is the peace and quiet along with the views, the sunsets and, if you are here during mid August, San Lorenzo's evening of shooting stars will entertain you too!

(The cottages can be rented individually or for a larger group of say, 12 guests when a large communal dining/sitting room is also available for all guests plus an additional bathroom).

Castiglion Fiorentino

Other than the various towns of Tuscany and Umbria, there are the many wineries and street markets to interest you and fill your day -

Wineries and Wine Tours

Tuscany, the fifth-largest region in Italy, has been making wine for centuries, but it is only over the last two decades or so that it has emerged as a leading producer of quality wines. Covering a little more than 15,000 square miles in central Italy, Tuscany is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea on the west and southwest, Liguria to the northwest, Emilia Romagna to the north, the Marche and Umbria to the east, and Lazio to the southeast.

The key wine producing areas include Brunello di Montalcino, Bolgheri, Carmignano, Chianti Classico, Chianti Rufina and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Sangiovese is the main grape for most of Tuscany, producing everything from light and refreshing simple Chiantis to big and powerful Brunello di Montalcino or Chianti Classico riserva. International varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are also important, either as small additions to traditional wines or as major components in groundbreaking ones. Traditional white varieties such as Trebbiano and Malvasia are used widely, although the best dry whites at the moment are made with Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

"Romantic, clean cottage, splendid view, lovely silence; unique location."

Whenever we plan a vacation we have following criteria in mind: comfortable, clean housing, privacy, far from all noise, nice view, close to cultural highlights, pleasant climate, swimming facility. Never before could we give such high marks to all these criteria than when we stayed in La Luna of Borgo Tranquilitta. Beautiful, old, very characteristic and clean cottage. Excellent beds. Splendid view. 'Heavenly' silence. Maximum privacy. Lovely swimming pool. So happy were we with this accommodation, that we decided now and then not to go to one of the museum-like Tuscan cities, but to stay 'at home'. It is probably the first time in our life that we consider to go back to a place where we stayed before. La Luna has stolen our hearts.

Greetings Tinus and Jeanne

It seems a while ago now, but happy memories of meeting the two of you and our many conversations. We are so very pleased that your 8 nights at Il Borgo recharged your batteries and gave you so much pleasure. We really do look forward to seeing you both again. THis coming year, the owners are planning many improvements which should make your return even more enjoyable. Our very best wishes to you both.
