The Tuscany region

The house is located a short 20 minute drive from the walled city of Lucca. Lucca is a shopper's mecca, and contains many fine museums, churches and restaurants.

It is the home of the famous composer Puccini...indeed, there are concerts featuring his music all year around.

The beaches of the Versilia Coast are a short half hour drive away.

45 min drive to Florence

Leaning Tower of Pisa a 20 minute drive from house.

The famous Montecatini Spas 30 minute drive

Castelvecchio di Compito

Castelvecchio di Compito is an ancient mountaintop village overlooking part of a lush valley in the Compitese, a series of 8 towns in the southeast of Lucca.

These villages have been preserved with strict zoning laws, and so retain their original charm.

Casa Giovanetti is one of the beautifully preserved homes in the village...a village surrounding a very old castle, which was razed many years ago to build these homes...so the spirit of the old castle remains.

In the nearby village one can take horseback rides.

"Just perfect!"

Staying at Casa Giovannetti is like staying at someone's home. It has been fully and thoughtfully renovated with all of the amenities you will need for your extended stay, including internet access and satellite t.v., dishwasher, washer & dryer, fully-appointed kitchen, comfy beds, heat, air conditioning and window screens, among others. The house is arranged town-house style on 3 levels and all of the rooms are large and comfortable--making it an ideal space to accommodate a group while also offering options to spread out. And the short drive up to the house is spectacular! Castelvecchio Alto seems to be the highest hilltop town this side of Lucca and you will enjoy a spectacular view of the surrounding valley just steps from your front door! You'll definitely feel like a part of this quiet, friendly, village and be ideally located for your exploration of the Lucchese countryside.

Buon soggiorno!!

"Spectacular view, clean, charming, centrally located"

One of my favorite memories of this rental was driving up the scenic winding road to the charming community nestled at the top of the hill and enjoying the panoramic view from both outside and inside the house. This is a an airy three story home with classic but modern Italian charm. This is a great way to experience a Tuscan village while still having close access to my favorite places in Tuscany; Lucca, Florence, Pisa, Viareggio, Volterra, San Gimignano. Of special remembrance were the daily walks down the hill to the bar for a cappuccino and a visit with the locals. Im looking forward to a return visit..

"Best vacation rental we have ever stayed."

This is an incredible place to stay. The house is on the end of a small row of houses on the very top of a small mountain-large hill. The community is small and very old but this house has been completely modernized inside with American style (showers, etc.) bathrooms, kitchen, beds, etc. The house is a short drive to Lucca and beyond to Pisa. The small villages in the immediate neighborhood are interesting with some very good restaurants. We have stayed here three times and it is a central location to visit places like Sienna, Florence, etc. The parking is sometimes tight but available and I suggest arriving for the first time before dark, if possible, so you can appreciate the wonderful setting. This place is what I aways picture in my mind when I think of small Tuscan villages; the permanent residents in this community are very friendly.
