Residence San Giovanni – is a fully equipped two bedroom self catering apartment with sofa bed in living area which allows the apartment to sleep up to 6 people. Leading from the very bright and airy living room is a balcony with related outdoor furniture for al fresco dining with stunning views of the north western coastline of Sardinia with its white sandy beaches. The apartment complex also boasts an elevated communal pool with its own changing rooms and toilets, as well as spectacular views from the pool side due to its mountainside location.
The Residence is located in a very quiet and peaceful location yet only 10 minutes drive from the large resort of Valledoria which offers a large selection of well stocked supermarkets and other retail shopping. We are also just a 10 minute drive away from the highly acclaimed sandy beaches of Badesi Mare and Isola Rossa stretching along the north western coastline. The lovely beaches of Lu Bagnu and other excellent Valledorian beaches are only 5 – 10 minutes drive away.

The Sardinia region
Sardinia is not a mainstream Mediterranean destination but a sophisticated island set in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, about 120 miles west of the Italian mainland and south of Corsica, with around 1,800km of coastline. It is small enough to be called an island but big enough to be a universe unto itself. It is renowned for deserted beaches, clear emerald coloured waters and fascinating rock formations. The people are warm and friendly and enjoying themselves is a way of life. Yet all this is a mere 2 hour flight from the UK!
Sardinia has a pleasant 6 month summer, hot and dry from May to October often tempered with a breeze. The winter months are generally mild, with a good degree of sunshine, particularly in March and April when many of the flowers are blossoming. It can be hot during the daytime and cooler in the evenings.
Sardinia offers some of the best beaches in the Mediterranean with a spectacular number of white sandy beaches and crystal-clear emerald water. The beaches in Sardinia are incredibly clean and whether you are in a secluded bay or close to a town, the beaches are of a high standard and the quality of water is generally extremely high. Watersports and diving facilities are widely available on most coasts during the summer; The nearest beaches to the apartment are Lu Bagnu and the acclaimed beaches of Valledoria, however the beautiful beaches of Isola Rossa and Badesi Mare are only a short drive away. Further afield, you can also explore the bays, beaches and coves of Arzachena, Costa Smerelda and Alghero.
Sardinia is an island that allows you to truly experience the very essence of Mediterranean life. The cuisine offers a rich repetoire of dishes, heavily influenced by the country's various neighbours including Corsica and Italy, accompanied by an impressive local wine list.The mixing of game and farm produce (traditional with inland towns) and fish and seafood (traditional with coastal towns) result in a combination of flavours and appearance that is unique to Sardinia.
If you are staying in Sardinia a little longer why not try a day trip to Corsica? Corsica and Sardinia are separated by just 11km and a regular ferry service transports cars and people between the two in less than an hour. Corsica is an island with a fascinating past and is most famous as Napoleon Bonaparte's place of birth. Corsica is a French island, there are both French and Italian influences plus a uniquely Corsican flavour. There are close to 200 beaches on the island - fine and coarse white and golden sand beaches, plus pebbly beaches made up of millions of sea-moulded stones of every colour; and because of the nature of the landscape many of Corsica's beaches are hidden coves accessible only on foot or by boat.
Castelsardo / Roccia dell'Elefante area
The apartment is located 5 minutes drive from the nearest town of Castelsardo which was founded in the X11 Century by the Genovese family of Doria and is situated on the summit of a rocky pronomitory in a strategic position dominating the harbour.The modern town of Castelsardo offers a wide choice of entertainment, piano bars, night clubs and a very high standard of outdoor restaurants with breathtaking views.
La Roccia dell'Elefante – a rock similar to an elephant with it's trunk turned toward the road. This formation is one of the most spectacular manifestations of limestone erosion, a substance often utilised by prehistoric civilisation. Roccia dell'Elefante is a national landmark and is located only 2 minutes from Residence San Giovanni.
How to get there
Air Travel
Direct flights with Ryanair (www.ryanair.com) to Alghero from London Stansted, Liverpool John Lennon Airport and Dublin. Alghero services the North Western locality of the Island and is the nearest airport to Castelsardo. Transfer times should be around 50 minutes.
Direct flights with EasyJet from several UK airports www.easyjet.com. Easyjet also fly into Olbia airport which is around 1 hour 15 minutes car journey to the apartment.
We recommend that you hire a car - all major car hire companies operate out of Alghero airport - Hertz, Avis, EuropCar, however further information can be found at www.sardiniacarhire.co.uk. Eurocar tend to be very competitive or book your car hire when booking flights with Ryanair for a substantial discount. Car hire prices start at around 25 Euros per day.
A typical car journey from Alghero to Castelsardo will take around 50 minutes on very good roads. The apartment complex is located only minutes away from the national landmark 'Roccia del'Elefante' and this area is extremely well signposted.
There is a regular bus service from Alghero airport to Castelsardo and further information can be found at www.sardabus.it.

Further details outdoors: The apartment benefits from a communal pool which is ideal for families with children of all ages as the pool comes with lifeguard and cleaning personnel during the months of May to September. The pool has a built in shallow end for child safety and all the pool locality and pathways are well fenced and railed.
The whole complex has extensive lighting for security and safety during darkness. However, please note there are a number of stairs to climb to access the pool area and young children should be supervised at all times on the stairs and balcony areas.
