About the home

This country villa with water-chute pool is located in the open country but at the same time it's close to the main centre of the Garfagnana: Castelnuovo (just 2 km from the house). All around the villa there is a huge property (25 acres) given in EXCLUSIVE use to guests. From the patio/terrace and from the pool, you can admire the fantastic panorama on the Apuan Alps and have tasty outdoor meals under the fresh patio . You can also prepare your own pizza with the pizza oven (wood provided) or taste our selection of local wines on sale in the living room showcase (photo) .

-You can use our totally free and unlimited Wi-Fi internet access with your own computer .
-If you like music, in the villa there is a Hi-Fi system and many cds to listen .
-Available also sat tv and dvd player.
-Games in the gardens (table footbal,table tennis,bikes,children swings) .

The house is set up as follows. On the ground floor there's a large room, combining kitchen, living and dining room. The kitchen corner has an electric oven, microwave, a fridge-freezer and a dishwasher. The living room has a 32in satellite TV, DVD player and hi-fi. You should bring your satellite TV smart card: the decoder supports every code system except NDS. The ground floor also has a bathroom and lumber room.

The first floor has three bedrooms (two large, one small). Two of the bedrooms access a large roof-terrace with lovely views. There’s a further (large) bathroom on this floor.

The main villa (accommodates 7) has a small dependence (accommodates 2) made from a lovely stone antique metato, composed of a spacious bedroom and an en-suite bathroom. During July and August only rental of both villa and dependence is possible (9 guests). During the rest of the year you can rent just the villa if you wish.

Tuscan wines and in particular wines from the best producers of the Colline Lucchesi are available for guests to buy from the showcase in the living room.

This Lucca villa rental combines all the convenience of being near town (Castelnuovo Garfagnana) with the quiet of the country. From the roof-terrace you gaze upon a superb natural landscape: the peaks of the mountains, including the Uomo Morto (literally 'dead man', this is a peak that looks like a man's face in repose). And there is the church tower of Sassi, a tiny hamlet clinging to the rocks. In autumn the trees turn gold and in winter the mountains are covered with a blanket of snow.

You reach this country house to rent by passing through a chestnut wood. At the entrance you immediately see the house, entirely re-built in 2002-2003 in the typical country style of Tuscany’s Garfagnana. Surrounding the house is an estate of 25 acres, great for families with children. You’re within the Apuan Alps national park of course, so you may – if you’re lucky – glimpse squirrels and deer. Take a refreshing dip in the 12 x 6 metres swimming-pool with water-chute, or take the sun on the surrounding sundeck.

Tuscany is famous for its beautiful scenery and for its architecturally stunning towns. Six Tuscan sights have been made UNESCO protected sites: the historical centre of Florence, the historical centre of Siena, the square of the Cathedral of Pisa, the historical centre of San Gimignano, the historical centre of Pienza and the Val d'Orcia. The town of Lucca, only 40 minutes far from this rental villa, with its ancient walls (ring of 4 km around the historic centre)and its art masterpieces in every corner , is a must see for people who want to visit this region.

Rich in history and environments still untouched, Garfagnana is a heaven to all those who love nature. Hidden between the Apuan Alps and the Tuscan-Emilian Appennines, intersected by the river Serchio, it is dotted by small towns and villages where ancient traditions live on.
Castelnuovo di Garfagnana is the main market town of the Garfagnana region . The whole region is incredibly uncontaminated , colloquially known as the ‘national park of Tuscany’, and this villa close to Castelnuovo di Garfagnana places you right in the heart of the region. The terracotta roofs of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana provide a beautiful contrast to the green of the thick pine woods that carpet the Apennine hills and the Apuan Alps.

Do not miss a visit to Barga (15 km from Castelnuovo) known as "the most scottish town in Italy" because of strong emigrations in the past century, located on a hill dominating the Serchio River valley; Lucca (40 km) Orecchiella park (stunning gardens, mountain paths, bears cage etc...), Vagli lake , Bagni di Lucca (famous for the thermal spa) little mountain villages like Campocatino...

We recommend you to visit the nice little villages of Garfagnana (especially Campo Catino, near Vagli) with their stone houses and quiet, they'll give you an idea of the slow and healthy life of yesterday. Don't forget to taste the food specialities of Garfagnana .You have to try the excellent home-made cheeses and hams, the products made of chestnut flour: "castagnaccio", "necci", "polenta di neccio" and the classical roast chestnut in October and November.

Either you come from the hiway "A11" or the "A12", get out at LUCCA's tollgate and follow the road sign " GARFAGNANA" or "CASTELNUOVO GARFAGNANA". Go beyond the villages of PONTE A MORIANO , BORGO A MOZZANO , GALLICANO and straight on till CASTELNUOVO GARFAGNANA .

When you arrive in Castelnuovo Garfagnana , 150 metres beyond the sign that indicates the town , turn left before the bridge (don't pass it) . Follow "ARNI" direction. Pass through a part of Castelnuovo's centre till the sign of the village of "TORRITE". Shortly beyond this sign, there's a little bridge on your right : pass on it, then, immediately turn left : now you are in the new residential area of TORRITE. After the last house (look at the picture below), before the little soccer field of the village , there's a road climbing on your right. A little sign indicates "Pasquigliora". That's the way to Pruneta di Sopra : you will see a little bridge with wood parapet on your left . Pass on it . The road is strongly climbing now. Pass the following 2 houses (the first on your right after 50 metres from the bridge; the second is near few metres ahead: there's a metal fence on your left immediately after a little corner). Go on driving for 100 metres: you will see a nice open sky field. Near there's a cement road climbing on your right.

Firstly, many thanks to Fabrizio and Alessandro for their kindness and hospitality. The house is perfectly equipped for all holiday eventualities, with also dry wood for the pizza oven (just make sure it gets really hot), clear instructions for appliances and lots of advices in the house book. Our highlights were the superb meal prepared for us by Marco from the minimarket "Il Punto", some tasty local specialities including his friends honey, OTTIMO ! Also a delightful 2 hours riding horses around Castiglione Garfagnana (Corniolo stables, tel. 39-0583-68705).Hiring some bikes in Lucca to ride around Lucca city walls was also memorable and relaxing. But like so many of our predecessors here, the majority of time has been spent around the villa, in the lovely pool, playing table tennis and table football,strolling around the grounds and enjoying the place tranquillity.
