About the home

This 3 bedroomed, 19th Century restored Villa is in the beautiful Garfagnana region of northern Tuscany. Nearby views of the surrounding mountains and proximity to villages, towns and the magnificent cities of Lucca, Pisa and Florence make this a perfect location for savouring the delights of Tuscany.

The lovely shaded mature garden and small private pool also make this an excellent spot for families or a group of friends.

With only a five minute walk to the nearest restaurant, which doubles as the village bar/shop downstairs, nothing could be more relaxing. The quality of local produce and excellent home cooking makes this popular with Italians from all over the area.

The farmhouse has a dining kitchen, a lounge with open fire, 2 pleasant double bedrooms, a small single / twin room, 2 bathrooms, one with bath.

Mature trees give lovely shading to the front garden, which has a table and chairs for outside eating. The pool, 8x3 metres, is at the side of the house, partly shaded, with loungers.
there is a private parking space just off the road which goes to several villages.

The Tuscany / Lucca Province region

Tuscany is the most popular region of Italy, famous for its wonderful climate, landscape, and art treasures.
The famous "art" cities of Florence, Sienna and Lucca are huge attractions, whilst the culinery tradition is there to be savoured.

The Castelnuovo di Garfagnana area

The nearby town of Castelnuovo (2 km from the villa) has many restaurants, cafes, bars and fabulous independently owned shops as well as banks, a tourist office and a lovely square where performances take place. There is a weekly outdoor market and a number of good supermarkets.

Nearby Barga (10km) is an atmospheric historical town with strong Scottish family connections and an array of festivals and art exhibitions.

Horseriding, walking, gorge walking, mountain biking are all available nearby.

A trip to Forti di Marmi, a fashionable coastal resort is a lovely day trip.

Exploring the local medieval villages of Cascio, Eglio and Sassi transport you into another time. Nearly all surrounding villages have themed festivals full of local colour, music, performances and of course, food.

The Oricciella National park and nature reserve is also nearby and has botanical gardens, interactive nature museum, mountain goats, deer and rare birds as well as stunning walks and a restaurant.

There are local caves to explore, medieval castles and fortresses as well as large villas and gardens of the former Italian Medici aristocracy.

The tourist information office in nearby Castelnouvo (2km) provides details of all of these attractions.

Garfagnana is famous for its' great value food, cooked in a simple , rustic style. You can eat a full lunch with wine and coffee for 9-10 euros, and in the evening a main course typically costs 7-10 euros
