About the home

Downstairs, the accommodation comprises of an entrance hall, large sitting room with a fireplace, reading room, bedroom with en-suit toilet room and shower room and large kitchen (with a dishwasher, microwave and two large fridges) that leads out onto a terrace. There is a laundry and store room (with washing machine) with traditional stone steps leading to the first floor loggia and through to a second sitting room with a large open fireplace and a small kitchen area. The reading room downstairs has a sofa bed which can be used for an 11th guest - which will be at an extra cost.

Upstairs - Leading off from this central room, there are 4 bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms. The master bedroom has a terrace of about 25mt square, with beautiful panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and stairs leading down to the garden. Situated next to the pool is the covered pool house with a barbeque - perfect for long lazy lunches and dinners and for children to play in, away from the sun.

The Tuscany / Siena Province region

Siena and the surrounding Tuscan countryside is one of the most beautiful settings for any holiday. With many historical centres scattered around the countryside, such as Florence, San Gimignano, Greve in Chianti, Motecatini Terme, Cortona, most of which are usually no more than 1 or 2 hrs drive, you will not be lost for things to do on vacation. And for those who just want to relax and get away from it all - Tuscany is home to many famous wines - what better place to sit back, relax and drink it all in!

Siena is easily accessible too -
Pisa airport is about 1.5 hours drive away
Florence is 1 hours drive away
Rome is 3 hours drive away
And there are good train links from the station in the centre of Siena.

The Castelnuovo Berardenga / Pianella area

Montechiaro is a small settlement located about 15 minutes drive outside of Siena. With plenty of great trattoria's, small shops, cafes in the local area - it is easy to stay away from the hustle and bustle of Sienese life.

Just at the top of the hill to our villa is a local wine producer who happily opens to the public on Saturdays. Just take your bottle along, buy one there and get them to fill it up.

Why not go on a Wine tours? There are plenty - San Felice, the biggest exporter of Chianti, Dievole, Castello di Brolio, Felstrina .....

There is a tennis court is available to hire on an hourly basis, which is a three minute walk from the house. There are many lovely walks around the property and surrounding area.

Horse riding can be arranged at the local stables.

A hot air balloon ride over the rolling countryside can also be arranged, but this is very dependent on the weather.

Easily accessible from many airports, although Florence and Pisa are the closest between 1 - 1.5 hrs drive away.
Easyjet, Ryanair and British Airways are the most common airlines, with Ryanair serving Rome and Bologna airports too.
Train links between both Florence and Pisa to Siena are good with several services daily.
Frequent buses also leave Siena for Florence and Pisa

We recommend hiring a car - the villa is in a rural location with no close bus service

“Fabulous Tuscan villa experience!” Casa Bassa is a beautiful old Tuscan farmhouse and was the perfect central point for our stay in Tuscany. We were a party of 7, ranging in age from 16 to 63, and found the villa gave us ample space to gather together or have private time. The kitchen was a great setting for our Tuscan cooking lesson from a chef recommended by the owner, providing all relevant appliances and cooking utensils. The large terrace opening off the master bedroom was a great place to watch the sun set and enjoy the tremendous view of vineyards and olive groves! Our 16 year old enjoyed the pool - it was a bit cold for the rest of us (even though the October weather was much warmer than our Toronto home) - which was clean and well-maintained just like the villa itself. The owner's information and recommendations were great, making our stay even better. She was very easy to deal with. One recommendation - bring or rent a GPS for driving! Ours was used extensively - Italian streets are narrow, twisty and not well signed.

“Casa Bassa has so much to recommend it...” The accommodation was extremely spacious in every way, with 5 en-suite double bedrooms, a lovely extended kitchen and dining area for family meals and an excellent large adjoining lounge for those holiday DVD evenings -- it had everything that our large party of extended family could possibly have needed. Add to that, a wonderfully peaceful location, with fantastic views over the rolling Tuscan hills, with Siena's impressive towers clearly visible from the terrace and pool, not to mention the charmingly friendly wine-making and olive-growing neighbour. All that was missing was a tennis court for the annual family tennis competition. Only it wasn't... it was only 3 minutes walk away through the olive trees, yet in the middle of nowhere. We couldn't have made it up to have been better and will definitely be thinking about booking again next year...

“Excellent, couldn't ask for better!” We were traveling with 2 families with 5 children. The house and the swimming pool were perfect for us. The house is huge (could it be too big?), and it was really nice that nobody had to share bathrooms. The pool & the area overlooking it was wonderful. The owner was helpful, and the location was golden. I can't say enough good things about it.

“A beautiful villa, the perfect base to explore Tuscany.” I would highly recommend Casa Bassa. We had a wonderful week with our three children (12 and under) and the house had everything we needed. It is spacious, well-equipped and comfortable. It has a traditional Tuscan farmhouse feel, but all modern comforts. Quite a quirky layout, but a fun family house! It's location is stunning. The absolute best thing about the week for me was being able to step out onto the balcony first thing in the morning and see the view over the hills to Siena in the hazy early sunshine and to do the same when the historic buildings are lit up at night. It is a bit off the beaten track (literally!), but once you are there it is wonderfully quiet and peaceful. Yet it is still only a 20 minute drive into Siena and a 10 minute drive in the other direction to a village with a lovely family-friendly restaurant. It's a great location for exploring the area. We had an easy day trip to Florence and then did morning trips to places like Siena, Montalcino, Monteriggione, San Gimignano and headed home to the pool in the afternoons. Heaven! The pool was a tad chilly in early June, but the weather was hot so we enjoyed cooling off! The owners could not have been more helpful and pleasant to deal with. They provided lots of useful information in advance and were happy to answer questions. We would seriously consider a return visit.
