House | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 6
Set in a small friendly Aude village, in the heart of Cathar country between Carcassonne and Toulouse this comfortable, tastefully decorated terraced village house has many attractive features, including original beams and wooden or terracota tiled flooring. French doors from the large kitchen/diner lead onto a flagstone patio shaded in the summer by Trompette vine and jasmine, the patio steps lead to a mature and private walled garden which is bordered with wild flowers and shrubs. At the bottom of the garden is a large teak table seating six, which sits beneath a canopy of wisteria. We are a few doors down from a wonderful artisan boulangerie and across from the village epicerie. The village bar/cafe is just around the corner.
We are very close to the canal du midi for wonderful walks and cycling and 20 mins drive to beautiful lakeside beaches. We are also 1 hours drive to the mediterranean beaches of Leucate and Narbonne. The Languedoc-Roussillon region
Aude is named after the coastal river running through the department.
Aude is surrounded by two mountainous massifs the Black Mountain (Montagne Noire) and the Pyrenees
Aude has 47km of Mediterranean Coast. Its neighbouring departments are Pyrénées Orientales, Haute-Garonne, Tarn, Hérault and Ariège.
The most part of the department is under Mediterranean climate. Landscapes are nevertheless very diverse, from the Mediterranean Sea to the Pyrenees mountains.
Amongst a rich heritage, discover the medieval castles, the Citadelles du vertige (literally, head spin citadels), evidence of the Cathar epic ; romanesque abbeys and cloisters: the Medieval city of Carcassonne; the Roman city of Narbonne; prehistoric caves; and many other unique locations all around the department.
Aude offers a wide range of outdoor activities in spectacular landscapes : walks under the centenarian trees bordering the famous canal du midi, hiking, water sports, cycle touring, mountain bike tours, speleology, and many more.
Above all, Aude hosts the biggest and oldest vineyards of France : no need to say that gastronomy is an art in this region, where you'll be delighted by local food and grand wines.
Our house is in a small Aude village, it is very friendly, peaceful and surrounded by golden fields of wheat, and in the summer sunflowers.
