Come and discover La Piege, a micro-region in the Lauragais, in the department of the Aude, one of the last almost unchanged and until recently undiscovered corners of France. It is tucked away between the Canal du Midi, and the Pyrénéan Mountain range. Enjoy the tranquil pace of life, play pétanque in the sleepy villages nestled in the gently undulating landscape and search out small restaurants with their superb local cuisine; explore the Montagnes Noires and the foothills of the Pyrénées with their breathtaking panoramas and find the many medieval and Cathar castles and towns with their varied, exciting and often bloodied histories; all this set against the dramatic backdrop of the Pyrénéan mountains.
La borde with its two family run gites, is perched on a little promontory on the edge of the pretty village of Peyrefitte sur l'Hers. With our large pool, games room, bar and boule area you can always find some thing to do, or just relax and read, and enjoy the quiet coutryside. Barbecues are supplied and with lots of space you can chose were to eat and cook. When you arrive you are greated by a welcome pack which includes local produce, some cold beer, a chilled bottle of rosé and a local red, so you can start your holiday as soon as you have parked your car.
We have five very friendley donkeys, who love polos, dried bread, and taking our younger guests for a ride, our free range chickens provide fresh eggs and in the summer our vegtable garden supplies tomatoes, salads etc..

This part of the Languedoc has a sunny, Mediterranean climate. It can be hot in summer, but the temperature is often tempered by an agreable breeze.

Two bedrooms with balcony (Sleeps 4/5), available all year round.
Tastefully renovated old stable building, you won't find a trace of its past vocation when it was used as the home for the heavy horses that worked the farm. L'Etable features exposed stonewalls and wood beams.
The ground floor accommodation consists of:
• An entrance hall - with doors leading to

• Bedroom 1 - with a double bed.
• Bedroom 2 - with twin beds.
• An extra bed can be put up to accommodate the 5th person on request.
Oak stairs in the entrance hall lead to the first floor open planned kitchen and dining aera , which has views over the pool and the Pyrénéan Mountains to the south.
• A well equipped kitchen - with washing machine, dishwasher, electric cooker with gas hob, fridge picnic basket and shopping and cool bags etc,
• from the dining aera a door leads the sitting room which includes, a sofa and chairs, TV, DVD player, radio, CD player etc, a glazed door leads on to a balcony with sitting area and views over the wooded hills and farmland to the north.
L'Etable has under floor heating for those cold winter nights, therefore is available all year round.

Location
Salle sur l'Hers is the nearest large village and is 5 km from Peyrefitte sur l'Hers. It has a village shop, newsagents, butchers, bakers, pharmacy, doctors, dentist, and also a bar and restaurant. Belpech is 10 km from Peyrefitte sur l'Hers, and has all the amenities as Salle sur l'Hers as well as a market every Wednesday morning in the village centre.
Historical sites such as Carcassonne, Toulose, Mirepoix, canal du midi, pyrénéan mountains, lakes for sailing, windsurfing, and the Cathar castles, fabulous scenery, great cuisine and vineyards, vineyards, vineyards.
Activities
• Canal du Midi - take a boat ride on the canal on board the Bateau Lucie, or cycle along the canal path.
• Lac de la Gangies - sailing, canoeing, etc.
• Cycling
• Horse riding
• Wine tasting - this can be arranged at a local cave by prior arrangement, or you can drive around the area and discover the wine regions of Corbiers, Fitou, Minervois, the Blanquette de Limoux, and the Muscat of Rivesaltes.
• History - the Cathars with their castles and cities. The medieval cities and towns in the region, for example, Carcassonne, Mirepoix, Fanjeaux, Foix to name but a few, and the caves in the foothills, where pre-historic man lived.
• Fishing - this can also be arranged.
• The Pyrenees - walking in the Pyrenees is very popular and in winter, skiing. The nearest ski resort is Mont d’Olme 1 hour away, a quiet resort for all the family to ski, or visit Andorra for some duty free. For a change you can take the train to see the views in the Pyrenees and even go as far as Barcelona, and in the foothills you can try white water rafting.
• Ax-les-Thermes - a spa town is an ideal place to relax and in winter you can also ski. It is about 1½hrs drive.
• Markets - happen in most villages and towns just ask for details when you arrive.

The Castelnaudary area
Canal du midi, with local boat hire and tours, fete de cassoulet at the end of august, large market on Mondays, and a great place to explore, close to the black mountains and Toulouse.
