The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region
The Aude is the perfect location for exploring rural France, and also the medieval city of Carcassonne or Toulouse.
This part of the Languedoc region has a sunny and Mediterranean climate. It can be hot in the summer, but the temperature is often tempered by a breeze. Now this is the 3rd most visited region in France by British people, and Languedoc offers something for everyone. It has to offer miles of long, sandy beaches, coastal lagoons, vibrant cities such as Narbonne and Montpellier, historical sites such as Carcassonne and the many Cathar castles, fabulous scenery, great cuisine and plenty of vineyards.
The Castelnaudary area
Les Casses is near Saint Felix Lauragais and the towns of Revel, Castelnaudry and Villefranche de Lauragais.
In the heart of the Lauragais, with its beautiful countryside and cathar castles. Villa Confey is 35 minutes by car from both Carcassonne and Toulouse. Toulouse, the 'Ville Rose', has excellent shopping facilities, architecture, history and art. The medieval cite of Carcassonne, the inspiration for the book Labyrinth with its two outer walls and 52 towers is definitely worth a visit.
Near Revel is the Lac de St Ferreol which is ideal for children with its sandy beach, pine woods, bars and restaurants. You can also hire pedeloes and small boats. The Lac St Ferréol is one of several water sources for the Canal du Midi and in the town of Castelnaudary it is possible to take boats trips along the canal. If you wish to rent bicycles, then they can be hired nearby to the canal at the village of Montferrand. A cycle path exists along the whole canal from Toulouse to the Mediterranean.
Explore the Cathar castles and visit the inspiration of the 'Da Vinci Code' and the 'Holy Blood and the Holy Grail' - Rennes Le Chateau. This truly is a great place to unwind and enjoy fabulous regional foods in a sun drenched area of Southern France.
The area has good local wines as we are nestled on the edge of the famous wine regions: Carbardes, Cote de la Malpere, Corbieres, Minervois and Fitou. The nearby town of Castelnadary is famous for the local dish 'Cassoulet' and has the Fete du Cassoulet during the last weekend in August.
With the excellent road connections the coastal resort of Narbonne is about 1 hour, the Pyrenees mountain range approx 1½ hours, Andorra about 2 hours and Barcelona about 3 hours.
Other activities possible nearby include swimming, golf, walking, horse-riding and cycling.

Great villa with everything you need for a lovely holiday. A good size with 3double bedrooms and 2 bathrooms so could easily sleep 6 very comfortably, though there was only 3 of us so had lots of room. It was very clean and well maintained and the pool was great for all of us and had both secure fencing and an alarm so very safe for young children. The location was good and everywhere easily accessed, only downside no shop in village. Though supermarket only 15 mins away. A really good place to spend your hols!
