The Midi-Pyrenees region

This is a fantastic region with so much to offer. The Pyrenees are close by with stunning natural environments from mountains, lakes, glaciers, caves and the world renowned Pyrénées National Park.

Things to do include: Hot thermal spas, skiing, snow boarding, mountain biking, kayaking, canoeing, white-water rafting, go-karting, horse riding, hiking, bird watching, golf and parachuting. Or you can do the best thing of all .... absolutely nothing.

Castelnau-Magnoac

The Village of Sariac-Magnoac is delightful and tranquil with houses widespread and a sparse population. It offers a lovely quality of life with breathtaking landscapes and views of the Pyrenean Mountains. We have a local donkey farm. It is a great area for walks and bird-watching.

There are a wide range of shops and other amenities in Castelnau-Magnoac just 3.5 kilometres away.

You can never get bored in this area and for artists it is so inspirational. Some notable places include:

Lac Puydarrieux: An artificial reservoir and now one of the major ornithological sites. It is particularly noted as an important stopover for hundreds of cranes as well as greylag geese, the great egret and occasionally white-tailed eagles, black storks and osprey.

The Barronies: Simply unforgettable for those who love nature and walking; a natural region of outstanding beauty, an unspoilt, timeless world of villages, baroque churches and ancient monuments well balanced with the green pastures, rolling hills, dense forests, crystal clear streams, waterfalls and caves. If you love nature and walking the Baronnies are simply unforgettable.

Lourdes: is one of the world's most famous Catholic pilgrimage sites with over 5 million visitors a year. See the renowned Grotte where Bernadette had her visions. It is a fascinating place for anyone to visit. Also on the pilgrim route is the little known Notre-Dame de Garaison also associated with miracle cures where the Virgin Mary appeared 3 times to a young shepherdess, Anglez Sagazan.

Toulouse: A lively vibrant university city full of religious and historic treasures with some good museums, galleries and great shopping. It is home to the European aerospace industry where one can have a fabulous guided tour.

"Rural France with art tuition if desired"

I really enjoyed staying at this farmhouse just outside a tiny hamlet in a very rural area of France. The views of the Pyrenees arer stunning and I found Paul and Asha to be very caring hosts. I spent my days with Paul in his studio or outside painting, drawing and talking art. I learned a lot during my time at Maison Ganesh and would highly recommend it to anyone who needs a base in the Hautes-Pyrenees. If you, like me, are looking to improve your drawing and painting technique while enjoying Paul and Asha's hospitality, then it really is a great option. The surrounding area is full of charming villages and small towns and the regional gastronomy is known throughout France.
