Lasserre
About the home
Approached by a long drive, this beautiful old stone farmhouse sits in total seclusion on five acres of garden and wooded hillside. Spread out before it lies a panorama of rolling countryside, woodland, vineyards and, on clear days, the distant peaks of the Pyrenees. The house itself is charming. While retaining the beauty and simplicity of an 18th century farmhouse, Lasserre is a very comfortable family home.
The rooms are graced with original hand hewn beams, heavy oak doors, and original plaster walls with exposed beams and lovely old terracotta floors. The owners live in the property for a portion of the year and, consequently, it has been furnished to a comfortably high standard with favourite pictures and books, antique family furniture, and quality appliances.
This area of south west France, the Tarn, is a particularly pretty and unspoilt region. The countryside is a patchwork of vineyards, maize, sunflowers and woodland dotted with ancient farmhouses and historic towns.

BookThe Midi-Pyrenees / Tarn region
The Midi-Pyrénées is situated in the heart of South West France. The region is vast and therefore extremely varied. To the west, the landscape is undulating with vast fields of yellow sunflowers in spring and early summer. Further to the east lie deep gorges carved out millions of years ago, hilltop castles and picturesque walled villages known locally as bastides such as Cordes-sur-Ciel, Najac and Villefranche de Rouergue, built on a grid of streets around a central square, a reminder of the turbulent history: English invasions, Cathar struggles, the religious wars.
These days there is usually nothing more than colourful street markets and festivals to disturb the peace. There are beautiful abbeys nestling in wooded valleys, hill-top villages, fascinating old places like nearby Gaillac ,Saint Antonin Noble Val, Bruniquel or Puycelsi - . the capital of Tarn, just 20 kms away is famous Albi, with its magnificent pink brick cathedral, the Toulouse - Lautrec museum and gallery and lovely old streets to wander around.
Most places are easily accessible, as French country roads are really not crowded, and often you can park for free!
Summers can be very hot and winters normally short with cold crisp days.
The Castelnau de Montmiral area
Lasserre is located in a particularly pretty and unspoilt part of south west France. This is the area of Bastide towns such as Cordes sur Ciel and Carcassonne, fortified hill towns rising up into the sky with enchanting twisting streets and covered market places. There are fields of grapes and sunflowers. The countryside rolls gently up to the Forêt de la Grésigne, the largest oak forest in Europe. Lasserre sits on a hill looking toward the south over woodland, pastures and sunflowers.
There is an abundance of wildlife, including two resident falcons. Lasserre benefits from total seclusion surrounded by nothing but forest, fields, and vineyards. It just a few minutes drive from the pretty town of Castelnau de Montmiral with a boulangerie, small shops, pharmacy, café, post office and excellent restaurant. The market town and wine centre of Gaillac is about ten minutes away with shops, restaurants and cafés. The cultural centres of Albi and Toulouse are within 45 minutes.
