Tarn Owls nestles peacefully in a tranquil rural location amongst vineyards and sunflower fields close to the Gresigne Forest. The stunning countryside with excellent walking tracks has some of the loveliest mediaeval towns and villages, and some of the most inspiring gorges and valleys in France. The forest is one of the largest and oldest oak forests in Europe, it abounds in wildlife and is said to have been planted by Louis XIV.
The spacious accommodation has been refurbished to a high standard, retaining original features including lovely oak beams and part exposed limestone wall. The beautiful house was the central location for a new film that had its première recently.
There is no other let property - only the owners share the extensive grounds.

The heated pool is a roman-ended, 10m x 5m saline pool - no chlorine-induced red eyes! There is a large tiled lounging area with sun-beds around the pool, and a changing room with toilet and shower next to it. Atmospheric pool lighting makes evening drinks by the pool a romantic and relaxing experience.
There is an exclusive part of the gardens adjacent to the gite for your outdoor eating, BBQ and relaxing, plus use of the extensive grounds with several shady seating areas, and boules court.
The proximity of the pool makes the accommodation unsuitable for young children who do not swim.
Gardens and Pool: You will have your own exclusive dining and garden area adjacent to the gite. Use of the pool, pool terrace and extensive grounds is shared with the owners. There is a covered area adjacent to the pool reserved for the owners. The pool is normally available from about 8am until 8pm during April/September.
The Midi-Pyrénées region
Midi-Pyrénées contains a number of essential sites to visit. An unmissable town is Albi, with its1000 year-old bridge over the River Tarn (reputedly one of the oldest brick-built bridges in existence), the famous Albi Cathedral, and the Toulouse Lautrec Museum and gallery.
Also in the Midi-Pyrénées is the Gresigne Forest . This glorious ancient woodland, one of the largest in Europe, covers three and a half thousand hectares, houses over one hundred species of oak tree, and is rich with birdlife, wild boar, deer, and hares - and red squirrels! There are many shaded and secluded walks and cycleways within the forest. For those for whom horse riding is the way to explore the countryside, there are stables and riding schools nearby.
Castelnau de Montmiral is our local village, just three kilometres away and easily reached from Tarn Owls. It is a mediaeval bastide town, perched on top of a hill with awe-inspiring views over the Gresigne Forest and the surrounding valley. It has a bar and two restaurants, a boulangerie, a post office, and a small supermarket, with a thriving market on Tuesdays. Sit in the market square, and watch the bustle of a local market, as feet tread cobble-stones that ring with history…
We are in the heart of one of the main wine-producing regions of France. There are over 120 vineyards in this area. These friendly vineyards offer good white, rose, red and sparkling wines. We can suggest which vineyards to visit for best value and free wine tastings.
There are plenty of markets and brocantes in all the local towns throughout the summer months.
There are open-air concerts at the park in Gaillac, every Friday through the summer, each week a different concert, with wine and nibbles, sunshine and music, dancing and friendship – all for about 5 euros!
Some of the local vineyards also have apero evenings with live music, cheap wine and delicious food
Kayaking down the Aveyron Gorges, walking the national walking tracks, horse riding, cycling or swimming, relaxing by the pool or simply driving around this beautiful countryside exploring towns and villages that have hardly changed in centuries - it's all here, waiting for you to enjoy.
Just two miles from Tarn Owls, is the Vere Gresigne centre, with its boating/pedalo lake, swimming lake (with water-slide and life-guard), tennis courts, crazy golf, boules, bar and ice-cream parlour.
Walking and cycling are a favourite activity among locals and holiday-makers alike, and there are national walking trails on the doorstep. Local walking groups (French and English) will be pleased to welcome real enthusiasts!
The local area abounds in bird life, and bird watchers are rarely disappointed.

"Perfect, beautiful setting."
And I mean it! This was our first visit to this part of France and were not disappointed. I must admit my girlfriend was inspired to look at this area by the recent film with Helen Mirren, but we need little excuse to holiday in France, regardless! The gite owners were very welcoming and helpful in suggesting places to visit, restaurants to look for, etc and were clearly knowledgable of the area. The gite itself is very homely with a large kitchen/dining area, a relaxing lounge with plenty of books, games & DVDs to keep you occupied on an evening. The bedrooms are perfect with plenty of wardrobe space and comfortable beds. Outside there are large gardens that we were free to walk around, there are reclining sun loungers, a gazebo with a retractable roof, a BBQ and other tables & chairs. Then there's the lovely heated pool that, again, were free to use. If you like exploring, there are a number of the famous Bastide Towns within an hours drive, a large forest nearby, and the beautiful city of Albi within easy reach too. This was one of the most relaxing holidays we've ever had and wouldn't hesitate returning to Tarn Owls again!

"A beautiful gite in this spectacular part of the Tarn"
Dear Mike and Michelle We can’t begin to thank you enough for the wonderful week at Tarn Owls. We only wish that it could have been longer. You have been so kind and helpful and Bozat is brilliantly situated. Truly gorgeous countryside. We had read some guidebooks for the Tarn, but didn’t really have a clear idea of how we would fill our week. No need to worry – Mike was always quickly and gladly on hand with suggestions and recommendations that all proved to be spot on. Our memories will be of the glorious Sunday morning market at St Antonin Noble Val (MAKE the effort) – surely the most spectacular location for any market; of all the beautiful local cycle routes to Montmiral, St Cecile and around the nearby area (highly recommended, not least because Mike’s brilliant bikes made them so easy for a couple of 50-year old wrecks like us!). The visit to Alain and Veronique’s ‘Domain de la Mothe’ was a joy (as was the wine!). Otherwise we settled into a daily routine of a morning visit to the breathtakingly spectacular sites of the Bastide circuit – Puycelsi, Bruniquel, Penne (so much more that we didn’t have time for), and then back after a splendid lunch to an afternoon by the pool and an easy win over Caroline (3-0) in the perfectly designed ‘Bouling alley’. (I let him win – Caroline.) Best: we think the cycle rides, especially up to Sainte Cecile (hard work-ish) and down through the Forest of Gresigne (no need to pedal!). Bad: NONE Let Mike and Michelle be your guides, if you need one. Walk if you can’t cycle. Many, many thanks to you both Mike and Michelle. See you again for sure (we must see Castres and Albi). C&M

"Quality gite in lovely location"
Friendly and helpful hosts who were not intrusive but happily offered their experience on places and activities when asked. Comfortable and quality gite, well equipped throughout, with excellent pool, extensive grounds and resident Little Owls. Well situated in the Tarn countryside, with easy access to the towns, villages and sites of the Tarn and other areas of Midi Pyrenees.

"A Lovely Location"
We really enjoyed our stay at ‘Tarn Owls’! This is a period property in a lovely area . Big bedroom, a comfortable lounge and a well equipped kitchen. The grounds are extensive and very pleasant. The pool was a bonus and was put to god use on a very hot afternoon. We love this area, especially Cordes sur Ceil, Puycelsi and we also had a lovely meal at ‘Vigne en Foule’ in Gaillac. The ‘Tarn Owls’ put in an appearance which was great. Thank you Mike and Michelle for making us feel so welcome and enabling us to have a very relaxing week.

This was our 2nd time at this gite and it was excellent once again. The owners are friendly and hospitable and were able to provide us with a great deal of information regarding the area. The gite is set in a peaceful location and is overlooked by a wonderful medieval village which you can get to by car within a few minutes. There are many places to visit, all within easy reach by car, and each journey is surrounded by magnificent countryside. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

"Tarn Owls - A Perfect Place to Relax"
Tarn Owls is a lot more than just a relaxing place for a holiday though. My favourite points, not in any particular order:- - Spending quality time unwinding with my family - Watching the bats and owls - Visiting and sampling the local vinyards - Listening to the orchestra of wildlife after dark - Stars, you can see a lot more when it is this dark - Picking fruit from the garden for breakfast - Market day at St Antonin Nobal-Val - Teenage son having the pool to himself Mike and Michelle are perfect hosts. Greeting us on arrival, Mike showed us around the Gite, lots of advice on the region, leaving us plenty of space but also there for any queries we had. We will have to return, one week is not enough. I want to take my mountain bike next time to explore the local forests and trails. For this time, I was more than happy to settle for chilling out on the terrace playing (learning) guitar. "A beautiful and welcoming gite in the Tarn"
At Tarn Owls Mike and Michelle are ideal hosts, being extremely pleasant and helpful, but not intrusive. The gite is very comfortable and the house, swimming pool and grounds are situated among the vines in the beautiful Tarn countryside. The little owls nesting in the loft often come out to see us as we sit outside eating our dinner. There are lots of places to visit in the locality, notably Albi and Gaillac, as well as many picturesque villages, such as Puycelsi, Bruniquel and Penna. The gite has lots of local information, including an excellent selection of local walks. We have now stayed at Tarn Owls five times and we have already booked for next year.

"A peaceful getaway in beautiful surroundings"
We visited Tarn Owls for a week starting the August bank holiday weekend. The gite forms part of a very picturesque house with lovely views of the surrounding countryside. There was plenty of room in the gite, with the tastefully decorated and spacious rooms making it feel like a home away from home. Outside there was plenty of room to lounge around, either by the pool or in the very extensive grounds. The patio area near the gite was perfect for alfresco dining and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook the provisions we bought at the excellent market at St-Antonin-Noble-Val . The weather was glorious throughout our stay. Mike and Michelle were very generous and helpful hosts, providing helpful tips and information and generally making sure we were ok. We had a really wonderful time. At the end of the week we felt a little guilty that we hadn't visited more of the very beautiful local towns, but that was because Tarn Owls is such such a nice place just to sit, relax and soak up the wonderful setting.

"Haven of peace whatever the weather"
The house was delightful, well equipped and in an excellent location. Despite unseasonably poor weather, we could still find plenty of places to visit, and on the rare occasions when the sun shone, we enjoyed the grounds and the pool. The passport to Gaillac's 3 museums proved excellent value. It is also an easy drive to Albi which was a lovely city. Michelle and Mike were excellent hosts, hospitable, not intrusive and ready with advice when requested. We wished we had found this place when our children were young they would have loved it. We will certainly return to the Tarn Owls.

"Just what we were hoping for"
The self contained gite was just as decribed on the web site with no exaggeration. Very welcoming hosts with a ready supply of local knowledge, advice & information. Quiet location, very rural & conducive to relaxation. Location means a car is essential, even for local services, although Castelnau-de-Montmiral is walkable for the active. No shortage of places to visit, things to do and fine food & drink to enjoy. Having stayed in many places throughout France, this was certainly one of the better ones.
