Podere Patrignone is a beautiful old 15th Century estate ('podere') which has been lovingly and tastefully restored. Patrignone is set on top of it's own hill reached by a long, winding private road that ends at Patrignone. It is set in 150 acres of forest, olives and vines, with uninterrupted 360 degree views over the Tuscan valley below. It's the perfect setting for peaceful walks, sunbathing, cycling and exploring.
It has a lovely pool with one of the best vistas in Tuscany. Wake up to the mists rising through the trees and the beautiful views of surrounding vineyards, or catch an amazing sunset over the towers of San Gimignano and the snow-capped Apennines on the horizon. It is divided into six self-contained apartments or villas, all beautifully furnished in a traditional style.
This villa will comfortably sleep 14, but you can also rent any number of the other 5 apartments in this isolated hill-top farm to give you a maximum sleeping capacity of 33. So if you have a large gathering to plan, please get in touch and we'll help you make the necessary arrangements.

|Further details indoors|
The main Villa has 7 double bedrooms (one a twin), all with en-suite bathrooms. Two of the rooms have stunning sunset views from their small balconies, while the others all have charming views of countryside or the beautiful cobbled ivy-covered courtyard. It has a huge kitchen and dining room with a large dining table that seats 14, a large living room with comfortable sofas and chairs, and its own library with 100's of books if you are short of reading material. The whole house is filled with beautiful antique furniture and large comfortable beds. The old terracotta tiles and chestnut beams are in evidence everywhere.
|Further details outdoors|
There is a large terracotta terrace with breathtaking sunset views across the valley towards the sparkling towers of San Gimignano and the snowy peaks of Abetone. Guests often have their sunset drinks here, or take their evening meals here under the stars.
The natural stone-tiled pool area is a tactful 50 metres from the house, and offers amazing sunset vistas, as well as the opportunity to watch the cheeky swallows having an evening dip in the pool. There are plenty of deck-chairs and sun-loungers, as well as umbrellas, the natural shade produced by trees surrounding the pool, and a shower. NB There is no pool supervision, so NO children under the age of 14 may use the pool unsupervised.
The Koi pond is a peaceful landscaped area made up of a stone built circular pond, with a seating area. It is very quiet and is shaded by large trees. It is not a safe area for young children to roam unsupervised.
Three generations of the same family own and run Patrignone. It is owned by Carla Govoni. She bought the property some 20 years ago, and has been painstakingly restoring it ever since - a never-ending task. Her son Simon (me), my girlfriend Verity, and our two kids Harvey and Sam now live at Patrignone and manage the concern personally.
Kids: you and your children are totally welcome. We have children of our own, and Patrignone is a great place for kids to explore. But be aware that many people come to Patrignone for a bit of peace and quiet, so please keep your children supervised and in-check at all times. If you want space where they can run wild, please ask - we have plenty of room for them where they can 'go native', build dens, stalk wild-life etc. This is especially important around water. There must be no unsupervised children anywhere near the swimming pool or the carp pool . . . . . and if you'd like more info, please visit us on our website.
Food at Patrignone
We are happy to cater for you and your party. We have been cooking for our guests for nearly 20 years, and we'd like to think that we know a thing or two about Tuscan food. We have a fabulous kitchen and a lovely sunken dining room (capacity 34) with a fantastic terracotta-arched ceiling. We serve a wide variety of typical Tuscan (and other Italian) home-cooked food, sometimes with a slight modern twist. We sometimes serve part or all of your meal out on the Terracotta Terrace, depending on the time of year. Meals need to be booked in advance and paid for locally. A typical 4-course meal (with wine) costs €40 per head.
About this location
The Tuscany region
Well, if you taking the time and effort (and expense) to come to Tuscany, you probably have a fair idea of what´s on offer. So we won´t preach to the converted.
Needless to say that at Patrignone you are on the doorstep of the greatest concentration of art treasures in the World. I don´t doubt you will visit a museum or two, see a stunning church or two, and visit your fair share of beautiful medieval hill-top towns. It goes without saying.
However, do make sure you spend some time seeing a little of the parts of Tuscany that aren´t crowded with tourists. Go to a morning market and buy fresh fruit and veg, great fresh fish and hunt for those bargain Italian shoes. Take a picnic into our woods, or sit with a bottle of wine out in the olive groves as sun sets, hoping to spot deer or wild boar. Go to some of the open air hot bubbling springs and soak your body in the same sulphurous waters the ancient Etruscans lounged in (many of them free).
Castellina In Chianti
Patrignone is right in the middle of Chianti, at the epicenter of Tuscany's cultural treasures, just 10 minutes from the beautiful hill-top town of Castellina in Chianti, with its full compliment of restaurants, cafes and shops (and a small supermarket). Siena is just 35 minutes away, and Florence 40 minutes in the other direction, San Gimignano is 30 mins away, with Volterra the next village along. You really couldn't pick a more central location.
There's no doubt that you'll need a car to get the most of Chianti's nooks and crannies, but if you feel like venturing further afield, within a 1.5-hour drive you'll find white sandy beaches, typically beautiful seaside resorts, dozens of hot springs, and the majesty of the snow-covered Apennines clearly visible from Patrignone's terracotta terrace. And if you're into cycling, walking, nature-watching, or ballooning, these activities and more can be easily organised. Just let us know what your interests are, and we'll give you some options.
Local activities: swimming, tennis, walking, cycling, fishing, horse riding, ski, golf, mountain biking and wine tasting.
