The Tuscany region

Centrally located, the estates and villas offered by To Tuscany offer privacy yet easy access to Tuscany's many historic towns. The beauty and romance of Florence, brimming with cultural and artistic attractions Siena, and San Gimignano rich with medieval history, are within an easy hour's drive.

Even closer to home are Chianti's five regional towns, Gaiole in Chianti, Castellina in Chianti, Radda in Chianti, Panzano, Greve in Chianti.

Siena: Siena is a city in Tuscany, Italy. It is a beautiful walled city famous for the Palio, a horse race in the main square. It is the capital of the province of Siena. The historic centre of Siena has been declared by UNESCO a World Heritage Site.

Castellina In Chianti

Tennis - 2.7km away in Castellina

Distances - Siena 25km, San Gimignano 30km, Florence 44km, Pisa 100km, Rome 250km

Approach road - 1km poor unpaved road.

Castellina in Chianti: Situated on the Chiantigiana road, the ss222. Castellina in Chianti is a small town nestled at the top of a rolling green hill that separates the Pesa and Staggia rivers. From here you have a wonderful view of the surrounding landscape and the beautiful countryside.

Castellina in Chianti has historic and noble origins. In the 13th century it was built on a high ridge, probably over Roman ruins. There must have been a castle with two doors and a single road which all of the houses faced. The name Castellina in Chianti dei Trebbiesi, in honor of a nearby noble family, is tied to the civil history of Florence and the religious history of Fiesole.

It was part of the Chianti League and given its position near the border with Siena it was of great strategic importance. It has a 14th- 15th century character with a number of religious structures, including the parocchial church of San Salvatore.

The hamlet of Castellina: The fortress and observation deck date back to the medieval as does the Via delle Volte, a road used originally for military purposes, from which there is a unique view of Chianti.

You can visit several Etruscan tombs and it is believed that the area around Castellina in Chianti was full of numerous settlements of this population which, even today,is considered quite mysterious.

Today, Castellina's principle activity is, besides tourism, the production of wine and several important wine producers are located here.

Antica Gelateria: There is an excellent ice cream shop in Castellina. It is in a beautiful room in an old building, while you eat your ice cream you can admire the high vaulted ceilings.

The ice cream is all home-made and presented with elegance. The antica gelateria is famous in the whole of the Chianti for its fresh and delicious ice creams.
