About the home

To the back of the villa is another house, but you have complete privacy in the villa and in the pool that is set in the private garden on a lower level at the rear of the house. Here there is a large sun terrace furnished with sun loungers, and a covered seating area which has a table, tennis table, chairs and a bar fridge. There are fantastic views from poolside overlooking Castellina in Chianti and the Tuscan landscape.

Immediately outside, in front of the terrace is a covered patio with dining table and chairs, there is also a brick built barbecue. From here you have wonderful views over the surrounding countryside. This villa has excellent access to the historical towns of Tuscany, such as Siena, Florence and San Gimignano.

A door from the terrace opens into a small hallway, to the right is the kitchen/dining room which has a fitted kitchen with built in oven, separate gas hobs, a dishwasher, fridge, kettle and toaster. There is a wooden dining table and chairs with a fitted wooden corner seat, and an open fireplace.

To the left of the hallway is the lounge; this is a very comfortable room with sofa, armchairs, writing bureau TV and CD player. This room is dominated by the huge open fireplace that takes up one end, and is large enough to accommodate a bench seat within it.

The ground floor bathroom is to the left of the stairs and has a shower, WC and basin; this is also where the washing machine is kept. Upstairs on the first floor on the right is the second bathroom, this is a large tiled room with a beamed and tiled ceiling. There is a full sized bath with hand held shower, large basin WC and free standing storage cupboard. Next to the bathroom is the second bedroom with double bed, wooden wardrobe and matching chest of drawers and side tables.

Across the hall is the master bedroom which has an unusual four poster bed, the frame of which is made from an old wooden loom that dates from the 1900’s. There is also a wardrobe and a matching wooden chest of drawers.

To one side of the property is a two bedroom apartment. Entry to the apartment is from the terrace through double doors. These doors lead you into the open plan kitchen/diner/lounge area with double sofa, a working fireplace and kitchenette

A corridor from the lounge area leads to the two bedrooms. Each bedroom has en-suite bathroom facilities and a double bed (they can not be made twins)Both bedrooms have high windows, bright décor and good quality furnishings.

The Castellina in Chianti area

Castellina in Chianti is a small town nestled at the top of a rolling green hill that separates the Pesa and Staggia rivers. Castellina in Chianti has historic and noble origins. In the 13th century it was built on a high ridge, probably over Roman ruins.

The name Castellina in Chianti dei Trebbiesi, in honour of a nearby noble family, is tied to the civil history of Florence and the religious history of Fiesole.

It was part of the Chianti League and given its position near the border with Siena it was of great strategic importance. It has a 14th- 15th century character with a number of religious structures, including the parocchial church of San Salvatore.

The fortress and observation deck date back to medieval times as does the Via delle Volte, a road used originally for military purposes, from which there is a unique view of Chianti. You can visit several Etruscan tombs and it is believed that the area around Castellina in Chianti was full of numerous settlements of this population which, even today,is considered quite mysterious.

Today, Castellina's principle activity is, besides tourism, the production of wine and several important wine producers are located here.

There is an excellent ice cream shop in Castellina. The antica gelateria is famous in the whole of the Chianti for its fresh and delicious ice creams. It is in a beautiful room in an old building, while you eat your ice cream you can admire the high vaulted ceilings. The ice cream is all home-made and presented with elegance.
