About the home

The beautiful serene house is part of Cortijo Vacas Gordas, a group of farmhouse buildings remotely located away from all commercial centres in the quiet foothills of the Sierra Nevada. It is only 7km from the beach and an ideal place to rest by the pool, relax in the sun or to use as a launch-pad for some beautiful hill-side / mountain walks.

The home is owned by a friendly English couple who can arrange breakfast / evening meals upon request.

Casita La Bodega is delightfully remote, several miles north of Castell De Ferro, and directly south of Granada at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada.

A hire car is essential due to the secluded hillside location (up a winding riverbed track). Nearest airports are Malaga (1.5 hours by car), Granada (1 hour) or Almeria (2 hours). Our recommended car hire company is CarJet (www.carjet.com).

“Relaxation in the Gualchos hills” Our second stay at this unique retreat was as great as the first, probably better as we had none of the nervousness that normally accompanies renting a house for a week. Christine and Walter are fantastic hosts and the location and the setting simply stunning. If you seek to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, treat yourself to a slice of paradise and relaxation in the Gualchos hills. The coast is close but we found little need to leave the retreat and its lovely pool. Cocktails at sunset followed by Christine's delicious homecooked food was the perfect way to unwind. We cannot wait to return.

“wonderful,relaxing and beautiful oasis in the hills” Just the most amazing and original place to while away the days in the most wonderful setting. The place is a little paradise set in the hillside away from all the hustle and bustle of city life, but just a short, but exciting, car ride away from some beautiful beaches. Walter and Christine are great hosts who are invisible or as visible as you choose and have made their little oasis a perfect place to stay with their touch of rustic charm. Our family including our 11 month old granddaughter had the time of our lives........we will be returning!!!!!!!!!!

“Exceeding all expectations - fab, fab, fab” We had an absolutely fantastic holiday staying in this beautiful oasis with an 'infinity' terrace which takes you away from all of life's stresses and strains and enables you to relax in a beautiful rural location yet with all the luxuries you may need. The cottage was equipped with everything you need for a wonderful stay - including beach equipment! The owners, Walter and Christine are born hosts - they will leave you alone or chat and entertain as you wish and could not be more hospitable. We almost don't want to write a review in case you book a week that we want - but really cannot recommend this highly enough - and we are picky travellers!!

“Wonderful week - we will definitely be back” Just back from a wonderful week at Casita La Bodega, beautiful house, great views and a real oasis! Walter and Christine (and their 2 dogs) were very welcoming and ensured that we had everything that we needed. They also cooked us a fabulous meal on one of the evenings, served at sunset on their terrace, with enough left overs to cover the next days meals as well. We will definitely be back.

“Perfect stay in Andalusia.” We found it by chance but we were very satisfied with everything. Great hospitality, wonderfull place, quietness but good location in the mountains, not far away from the sea and from Sierra Nevada, perfect owners, very helpfull, . We are sure that we would like to return on that place. We highly recommend it.

“A heavenly escape from real life” We stayed for a week in March at this beautiful hideaway in the stunning hills not far from Castell de Ferro. It was a peaceful, tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of home life and the cottage was cosy, welcome and really well equipped. We travelled with our daughter who has just turned 1, and Walter & Christine went out of their way to make the three of us welcome and looked after. We treated ourselves to Christine's amazing cooking and felt utterly spoilt and very happy and very full! I'd definitely recommend this to family or friends who want to get away from it all and Walter & Christine's hospitality made for a very special and memorable holiday.

“Beautiful house if you want to get away from it all” The house is really beautiful, very nicely furnished - old and cared for. The valley it overlooks is very peaceful and quiet, and doesn't have any of the strange greenhouses which this part of the coast is full of. The owners are lovely - very welcoming and helpful and their dogs were a great hit with our children. It is a great place to stay and relax and swim in the pool.

“Idyllic. Peaceful. Stunning.” 3 of us were looking for something away from the hustle and bustle of life. Smewhere to relax, sleep, eat and use as a base for the odd trip up the mountains. We were greeted with warmth and generosity and made to feel welcome instantly. Christine and Walter are the most incredible hosts and prepared us some fabulous meals, in fact, the first nights dinner was some of the best food we've had in a long time. The setting is stunning....the only noise was the odd bird flying overhead and the gentle running of the stream in the valley. A great change from London! We cannot recommend Casita La Bodega enough. We're definitely going back, next time hopefully for longer!
