The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Lot et Garonne region
The Lot-et-Garonne in South West France is real rural, traditional France. Gentle rolling sunflower and corn covered fields, and communities going about their relaxed lives in traditional ways. Sam Tyler of the Observer said "the area is like an unspoilt Tuscany or Provence and I'd better shut up or I'll be responsible for spoiling it". Pretty little towns with their traditional markets and fantastic fetes celebrate their local delicacies and produce, from crevettes and oyster festivals through wild boar, duck, deer and Landes chicken, with cheeses and wines (Buzet,Duras,Bordeaux) in equal abundance these fetes are not to be missed! The region, famous for its chateau and vineyards, its foie gras, Armagnac brandy and Agen prunes means you are never far from a restaurant serving delicious French cuisine.
Casteljaloux area
There is so much to do in the area. The local town of Casteljaloux with it's two market squares and fabulous restaurants, the huge swimming lake just outside town with its imported ,safe (lifeguard) beach and swimming areas with cafe and bar and facilities, which also happens to be opposite the Casteljaloux Golf Club (not implying anything!). Why not take a drive out to the Dune de Pyla at Arcachon, with its 117 meter sand dunes and spectacular views. Many local towns offer century's old houses and leafy restaurant terraces, or visit a local bastide town such as Fources with its beautiful medieval buildings and massive flower market (the lot et Garonne is home to more bastide towns than anywhere else in France - some 40 in all). The wonderful medieval town of Nerac with its huge market and Bazas with its 13th Century Gothic Cathedral and beautiful arcaded square, or Vianne with its interesting night market and numerous outdoor menus competing in the quaint side streets. There are canals in the area where boats can be hired, pony trekking, fishing and wonderful country walks. Whatever your age or interests there really is something for everyone. We supply our clients with up to date tourist information, markets and fetes, local restaurants and recommendations etc.
