The Castle of Cabbiavoli, perched atop a hill, has been completely restored whilst maintaining the spirit and atmosphere of a noble mansion. It can easily accommodate 12 people in luxurious comfort. The beautifully maintained grounds include a large courtyard, lawn area, patio area, and a sunroom next to the 13th century chapel. The pool is located on the terraced hillside just below the courtyard.
On the ground floor, the front door leads into a large, cosy living room with a fireplace. On the left, a beautiful marble staircase winds up to the first floor. From the living room a corridor provides access to the rest of the house. The spacious and fully equipped kitchen on the right has terracotta flooring and beamed ceilings. Along the corridor, beyond a guest bathroom, there is a sumptuous dining room with French windows that access the courtyard. Further on, the Yellow living room with fireplace has a reading room alcove with TV, computer with broadband line and fax. To the right, the double bedroom of Federico Barbarossa has an en-suite bathroom with Jacuzzi bath.
On the first floor, at the top of the marble staircase, a long corridor leads to the bedrooms. On the right there is the Yellow double bedroom – again with en-suite bathroom with shower and Jacuzzi bath. To the left there are two twin bedrooms, the Celeste and the Pink bedroom - both with their own bathrooms, one with shower and tub and the other with shower. Towards the end of the corridor on the left a double bedroom with outside balcony overlooks the front yard. It is next to its own bathroom with both shower and Jacuzzi bath. There is also a laundry room with wardrobe and second staircase leading down to the ground floor.
XII Century Tower
The annex is a medieval tower standing alongside the villa (part of the original castle) and has its own access. From the living room on the ground floor a staircase takes you up to a double bedroom with its own bathroom with shower. With a breathtaking roof terrace.

Castelfiorentino is a small little town south of Empoli, Lucca, Pistoia and Florence. If you are just looking to head out of the heavier tourist areas and just want a little taste of Tuscany vera, then you should head into this area and admire not only the little town that can claim Roman origins, but was in the Middle Ages of strategic importance between the Holy Roman Empire and the Papacy. Probably best known artistically for its frescoes by Gozzoli, which are on display on the top floor of the Biblioteca Comunale (the local library). You can also walk around the Castello, or what we would call the historic centre. Located just a little further off from the city center is Santa Veridiana, a Baroque church which houses a little museum including artwork from nearby churches including the workd of Duccio di Buoninsegna (famous in Siena), Taddeo Gaddi (one of Giottos most faithful students with artwork in Florence and Poppi) and Gozzoli .
In Certaldo during the month of June there is a huge arts festival. Street artists, musicians, crafts and more. This year there was a spectacular show on dancer's on the wall of the city. Breath-taking!

"A beautiful journey back in time."
Villa Cabbiavoli is a wonderful place. The views over the Tuscan hills are amazing. It breaths the history of Italian gentry. We were treated like family guests by the the staff who are extremely helpful and friendly. They found the right tone between keeping a distance not interfering with our `family life' and being there when needed.
We booked this villa as we do not want to stay in impersonal luxury hotels with our extended family. You do have to sacrifice some of the luxury as the bathrooms are slightly dated and the pool is not heated. This will not stop us from coming back sometime in the coming years.
There was an issue with showers turning hot and cold but staff said this would be addressed.

"Fascinating place, wish we could've stayed for longer. . ."
First of all, the Tuscan countryside is magical -- the scenery, rolling hills and colours are all enhanced by the special light of Tuscany and the air is fragrant from blossoms. Second, the comfort and pleasures of a home are increased by the welcome and help given. We were welcomed warmly. The manager, Stefano's, wife went to the trouble of driving down with us to the supermarket. Stefano himself is brilliant -- he is calm, jovial and very efficient. He even took the trouble to connect with the people in Rome (for our next leg) when we couldn't get through and gave them our contact number. The apartment Ciliego is large and comfortable. The windows look out on some lovely scenery. Details, like netting on all windows, two way light switches on the stairs, are much appreciated. Apartment is very clean, we appreciated the recycling and garbage disposal facilities. Bedrooms and bathrooms were comfortable and very clean. Just two negatives 1/ the voltage seems quite low, lights are not bright enough for reading. 2/ the shower cubicles are tiny, I kept hitting my elbows all the time and had to towel down with the sliding door open and I am not large. All of us loved the old armoires in the bedrooms and the art objects in the living area. Most of all we loved the fact that the apartment was beautiful and comfortable, but not so fancy that we had to tiptoe around!
