The Country House Villa Pietro Romano is located in Castel Madama. Easily reached villa is 40 minutes by car from the centre of Rome(Colosseum), 1 km from the centre of Castel Madama, 6 km from Tivoli and 2 km from the Castel Madama exit of motorway A24 Roma-L'Aquila.

The Country House has two apartments with landscaped outdoor spaces and facilities. Both apartments have air conditioning, kitchen furnished and equipped, contemporary-style rooms, satellite TV, internet connection with USB Wi-Fi (on request).

Here you can enjoy the natural beauty and the Mediterranean food and also to visit with a short trips the precious historical, cultural and religious sites of Aniene valley: the Villas of Tivoli, the Monasteries of Subiaco and the Sanctuary of the Mentorella.

During the summer there is an above ground swimming pool with deck chairs and umbrellas.

The apartment "classic" is comfortable for two - five people.

It has two separate bedrooms: one double room and one triple room.

In the double room there are one double bed with good quality mattress (180x200x25), bedside tables, wardrobe, air conditioning cold / hot. From the window opens a beautiful view of over Aniene valley.

In the triple room there are one double bed and one single bed. Both beds have good quality mattresses with standard sizes ((180x200x25), (90x200x25)). There are three windows. Also there are fireplace, air conditioning cold / hot, bedside tables, wardrobe and sofa.

The bath is unique for the entire apartment and is equipped with bathtub with shower, washbasin, hair dryer and mirror.

(There are bath towels and bed linen. Every seven days there's cleaning rooms and change bed linen with towels.)

The kitchen is well equipped with all necessary for cooking tableware (flat, cups, pots and pans, coffee maker), and indispensable products such as salt, sugar, coffee. The kitchen has an electric oven, refrigerator, gas stove with four burners.

The kitchen is connected with living room, where there is a table for 8-15 people with chairs, sofa and satellite TV, air conditioning cold / hot. The windows of living room look to the garden, with a view to Castel Madama.

Outside of apartment there is a table with chairs.

Castel Madama

Castel Madama town. According to one ancient legend in this place on the summit of a hill was the hermitage of St. Michael Archangel. The original nucleus of Castrum Sancti Angeli was formed around 1000 A.D., in so-called epoch of the "incastellamento", probably by initiative of the abbey of Subiaco as happened in the rest of the Valley of the Aniene, with the purpose to cultivating new lands.

In 1256 the Castrum and the attached grounds were purchased by Giangaetano Orsini and in 1308 the sons of Fortebraccio Orsini built the Castle, typical for Middle Age rectangular fulcrum of the Borgo Medieval. From that moment Castel Madama became the Place Baronial for six hundred years.

In 1520 the small Castrum Sancti Angeli passed to the family of Medici, beginning from Pietro, husband of Alfonsina Orsini, up to the Madama Marguerite of Austria, noble woman daughter of Carlo V and wife of Alexander Medici, which gave historical shine and a new name to the small Castrum.

Every year in the first week of July there is Palio Madama Marguerite of Austria. The Palio is a historical holiday, that it has been taking place for about 20 years, held in Madama Marguerite of Austria's honour, daughter of the emperor Carlo V and wife of Alexander Medici. From 1538 up to her death, she was lady of the feud of Castrum Sancti Angels (the old name of Castel Madama). The Madama remained always in the heart of the population of castle.

During the days of the Palio the city seems to go back of 600 years, the roads transform: the square becomes a market of the Middle Ages; acrobats and fakirs amuses townsman; somewhere the music is head from a small party of farmers; hens cluck, sheep low, cows moo; the blacksmith beats the anvil with the heavy hammer. Suddenly, the sound of trumpets is heard, people move aside and the knights arrive on the square, greeted from the balcony of the Royal Palace by Madama Margarita…

To the death of the beloved lady the feud passed to the family Farnese in Parma.

After Farnese from 1700 to 1825 Castel Madama passed to baron Pallavicino in Parma – Busseto, and only in 1849 the Marquis Tiberi next “padrone” of castle gave independence and full powers to the Community of Castel Madama, on order of Pious IX forced by French, after the pontifical restoration against the Roman Republic. French asked to Pious IX to break the feudal structure and to allow the growth of an agrarian entrepreneurial, as it had been happening many years before in the rest of Italy and Europe.

"Italy at its best!"
