The Umbria region

Umbria “Heart of Italy” for geographical position and because here converge typical Italian amenities. It is unforgeable for its valleys and hills, rivers and lakes, and it is characterized by a sweet landscape. It has been the cradle of Middle Ages, with Saints and artistes like San Francesco, Santa Chiara, Perugino and Signorelli, Giotto and Raffaello. This is the region of medieval towns, simple, austere and strong, but human-size, where life is still easy, and where enjoy nature and art is possible.

Castel Giorgio

From afar Orvieto looks like a Tuff island in the middle of a green sea. The urban planning is typical medieval, with narrow streets and a wonderful Duomo (born on a project of Fra Bevignate da Perugia and concluded by Uguccione da Orvieto). This beautiful is known for its wines, and traditional festivities (like the Corpus Domini, and and ceramics, with their typical shops.

"Perfect place for couples to get away from it all and relax (or go cycling!)"

This retreat was an easy 2hr drive from Rome airport for us once on the 'Autostrade!' The accommodation is on the outskirts of Castel Giorgio, a village which is in walking distance, (but I liked to use the on site mountain bike), that has all you need, De Spar, Bars, Pizzeria, however the jewel in the crown here is the town of Orvieto only a short drive away, which is unmissable with its magnificent cathedral and atmosphere. (a car is advisable here to visit surrounding area)
The accommodation and estate is quiet, tranquil, restful, surrounded by beautiful gardens and then fields. The accommodation is a self contained one bed house (there are 2)with large rooms that have been kitted out to a high standard, including great shower, good kitchenette for basic cooking, and a large outside patio area with table/chairs a real home , away from home. We had full use of the pool, sun beds and use of airer which was most helpful.
From booking, to our arrival, during and leaving, we only asked for the mountain bike, we had no other problems, wifi, sattv all great, our hosts were always kind and courteous and have a clear love for the estate and want their guests to enjoy their stay.
They make a little wine and beer of their own which was lovely. They speak some english which was great as we (hate to say) do not speak enough italian.
This is a great location for cyclists too who want a little hill training as Castel Giorgio is higher than the surrounding area,so there are some touch hill climbs, this kept my husband busy while I enjoyed the pool. Cant talk more favourably about this place and would return in a heart beat.....
