The Tuscany region

The region is located in the central, western part of the country, north of Rome and south of Genoa. It is bounded by the Apennine Mountains to the North and East, the Apuan Alps on the northwest and by the Tyrrhenian Sea on the West.

From the Etruscans to the Romans to the Renaissance, Tuscany is possibly the greatest repository of art in the world, from extraordinary paintings and sculpture to frescoes and architectural masterpieces.

Tuscany: a row of cypress trees breaking the blue sky on a rolling hilltop. Olive groves and grapevines marching tidily down the side of a slope. Little medieval hill towns gazing down upon a country that has been carefully cultivated.

The Chianti area, between Florence and Siena, is one of the most beautiful countrysides in Italy and a famous wine production area.

Florence is the capital of Tuscany. Other important cities are Siena, Pisa, Arezzo, Pistoia, Prato, Lucca, Livorno, Grosseto, Massa Carrara.

Siena is one of the most popular destinations for travelers to Tuscany. Siena is home to the famous horse race, the Palio, held in Siena's unusual central square.

Casole d'Elsa

Within walking distance is the small mediaeval town of Casole d’Elsa, offering all essential services such as food shops, mini market, various restaurants, open-air cafes, banks, post office, tennis court, etc., whilst in the nearby larger town of Colle Val d'Elsa (10 km) guests can find offers all kinds of services and sport facilities (golf, tennis, etc.).

"Beautiful location"

The villa is lovely & bigger than it looks in the photos! I would recommend it although there are a couple of grumbles! The villa is definately not walking distance to the town. It is down a long, long gravel track, so beautifully secluded, but a long uphill walk to the main road & then a further uphill walk to town. There was also a constant large amount of wasps at the shallow end of the pool so would have been a problem if our children were younger. Owners were very pleasant, yet discreet.

"One Brilliant Week in September"

We stayed at Bel Sole, during September. Upon arriving at the villa we were shown around by the owners. What can I say, we were stunned, as it far surpassed our expectations. Absolutley fantastic. A large place with a brilliant pool area, many seating and eating areas, and a large ballcony which had stunning views over the countryside. Very clean and tidy, and very rustic and in keeping with the Tuscan surroundings. All in all a brilliant week, 5 star.
