'La Capanna' is on a single floor and was converted from an old agricultural building which has been fully renovated, incorporating traditional Tuscan features such as terracotta floors and beams. It is ideal for people wanting a place in a beautiful country setting with lots to enjoy locally, and also easy access to the great cities of Florence, Siena and beyond. The house and its extensive garden is in a small, quiet hamlet in a superb scenic setting looking up into the Pratomagno Mountains.
Six people can use the place comfortably, so it is ideal for famillies, small groups or just couples. There are four rooms: a spacious sitting/dining room (with a kitchen area and a large window offering spectacular views of the nearby mountains), two bedrooms and a the bathroom.
Comprehensive information is available on our personal website, which also contains many photos of the house and the locality - just search under 'La Capanna Pritchard'.

About this location
The Tuscany region
Tuscany contains some of Europe's most beautiful landscapes, along with the great cities of Florence, Siena, Arezzo, Pisa and Lucca. This is an area of great contrasts; from the mountains on the East side to the coastal plains and beaches on the West; from the tranquility of its green countryside to the great renaissance art and the contemporary sophistication of its cities. Tuscany is also well known for its wonderful wines, such as Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino and many others, and for its superb olive oil.
The climate ranges from hot (but seldom oppressively) in summer, to cool (but seldom bitterly cold) in winter. This climate, along with the vast array of things to do and see, makes Tuscany an ideal holiday destination at any time of year.
The small rural communities of Cascia and nearby Reggello lie in the foothills of the beautiful Pratomagno mountains, on which the light is constantly changing. They are tree clad high up, descending into olive groves and small vineyards, punctuated by old buildings and lines of cypress trees. The area is renowned in this part of Italy for the freshness of the air, and the local olive oil is generally held to be amongst the finest in the world. People interested in walking, flora, fauna or bird watching will find the location extremely rewarding.
Cascia is a typical Tuscan village, famous for the Masaccio painting in the superb Romanesque church. There are several other fascinating small villages and towns nearby, many offering excellent walks, beautiful old churches and other ancient buildings and places of interest. Vallombrosa, a particularly famous beauty spot up in the mountains, is only a few kilometres away.
In Cascia and Reggello there is a LARGE SWIMMING POOL, equestrian centre, cinema and several shops for all basic necessities, as well as a market on Saturdays. For people interested in finding a real bargain in the world of "haute couture" the nearby shopping centre called The Mall is home to the factory outlets of Gucci, Giorgio Armani, Yves Saint Laurent, and other top designer labels. Not far away there is a similar Prada outlet.
Westwards lies the river Arno and the Chianti hills, producing the splendid wines of the same name. Around Cascia and Reggello there are far fewer tourists than in the Chianti heartland. Slightly further afield, the cities of Florence, Siena and Arezzo, which are very easy to reach, offer a great variety of things to do and see. Medieval and Renaissance art and architecture is everywhere, there are theatres (some in the open-air), Roman and Etruscan ruins, shops and markets of every kind, as well as swimming baths, sports events and much more.

"Perfect base for exploring Tuscany"
We stayed in La Capanna for a week and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. The property was well equipped , clean and ideal for exploring Florence, Sienna and Chianti area.
We travelled down to Reggello through France in our own car. It would be difficult, if not impossible, to explore without your own transport.
Florence (Firenze) was wonderful - our favourite place. A trip to Fiesole gave us stunning views over the city as well as being of great interest in itself.
We ate wonderful ice-cream in most of the places we visited. The quality of the ice-cream in San Gimignano was the best, but that in Reggello was a close second.
We've had a wonderful week and would stay in La Capanna again if we revisit the area.

"A beautiful place to stay. Comfortable, homely and with a wonderful garden"
A wonderful week spent here. A very homely and comfortable place to stay with all you could wish for, and a garden we didn't want to leave behind! Excellent shops within walking distance and regular and cheap trains to Florence and elsewhere just a quarter of an hours drive away. Would recommend this to anyone wanting to sample the heart of the Tuscany countryside and as a base for exploring further afield.
