The Costa de Lisboa/Lisbon region
The Cascais/Estoril Coast has a wonderful climate and is a superb natural environment. In historical times Cascais was the first town that sailors would see as they approached the Tagus estuary and their last glimpse of Portugal as they sailed away into the Atlantic to all corners of the earth. Cascais is still an active fishing town, it has glorious beaches, excellent restaurants & shops and a vibrant nightlife. Estoril, once popular with the Royalty of Europe and one of the 'espionage centres of the second world war', is an easy 30 min walk along the coast. Sintra, with it's palaces and castles - a World Heritage Site - is only 20mins away. With glorious summers lasting from early May until October Cascais basks in sunshine for much of the year. Average temperatures in the summer are around the 30°C mark, ideal for beaches, yet not too hot to play golf or enjoy the rich and cultural heritage of Cascais.
