The Central Portugal region

Reviewers on Tripadvisor, have once again lavished praise on Portugal's capital city by electing it the best city in the world in terms of quality for price. Lisbon's inhabitants were also chosen as the best hosts in Europe Lisbon's inhabitants (considered the friendliest locals in Europe and the third most friendly in the world)

Lonely Planet travel guide: Lisbon surpassed cities such as Barcelona, London and Berlin and was voted second place in the top 10 must-visit cities in 2012 by the readers of Lonely Planet .

Lisbon is “A city of contrasts, where is possible to experience unique feelings, suitable to everyone's expectations,” they said.

Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in the world, predating other modern European capitals such as London, Paris and Rome by hundreds of years.

Cascais is a former typical fishing village that has developed into a cosmopolitan, affluent beach town and one of the richest municipalities in Portugal. Located approximately 25km from Lisbon, it can be reached either by way of the scenic coastal road (the 'marginal'), the Lisbon-Cascais motorway or by train.

Unlike areas of the Algarve, Cascais hasn't lost its character. The town itself has a rich architectural heritage, including the famous miniature palaces. The old town centre, with its winding pedestrianised streets, provides the perfect setting to explore the town on foot. There are many shops, restaurants and outdoor cafes scattered around town, including the Santini ice cream parlour, considered one of the best in Portugal.

The local sights include the impressive rock formations at Boca do Inferno (Hell's mouth) where visitors are mesmerised by the sheer force of the sea as it pounds against the rocks. The westernmost point of western Europe, Cabo da Roca, lies a short trip further up the coast.

Cascais is the perfect holiday destination for those tourists who want more than just a beach (Guincho being the most famous) and good weather - Cascais provides immaculate parks, free museums, golf and is close to Lisbon and Sintra (magical UNESCO world heritage where palatial homes discreetly rising out of the undergrowth create the romantic and fairy-tale atmosphere that has inspired the likes of Lord Byron and Hans Christian Andersen).

"We really felt at home in this nice appartment."

Patricia is a very friendly landlady. She gave a lot of advice and services. The beds were good and also the furniture. One can enter the balcony from three rooms. We enjoyed watching the movies on dvd. The kitchen is fully equipped. It's a quiet appartment. We had a marvellous time.
