The Costa de Lisboa/Lisbon region
Quinta da Marinha insertes in Cascais – Sintra Natural Reserve Park.
Between city and nature, the beach and the mountains, the Quinta da Marinha Resort - located in the excellent area of Cascais / Sintra, a mere 25 km from Lisbon - is the perfect setting to feel like all your wishes always come true. One of the finest Resorts in Portugal you can discover.
The history of Quinta da Marinha dates back to the 19th century. However the philosophy that accompanies time, even today it is guided by the same rules, along the 20 years of the last century, with the purchase of Quinta da Marinha to the count of Moser by Carlos Montez Champalimaud, surgeon and entrepreneur.
With a large and bold vision of the future, Carlos Montez Champalimaud previewed the high urban potential of that area, although still inhospitable territory at the time, gritty and almost deserted.
For more than 80 years, and at the same time as the beginning of the entire infrastructure, the fixing of the dunes and the conservation and afforestation of its entire area, transforming what was inhospitable and almost deserted, as a place well known for its scenic features.
The first part of the property to be developed, in the early 80's, was Guia, located in the Southeast of the fifth, and that includes, at present, an 18-hole golf course-designed by Robert Trent Jones, a Hotel, a residential area and a tourist village where your villa in included.
Guiding in all projects by high standards of quality and urban planning, defined by his grandfather and father, their descendants remain faithful to his memory, impersonating the dreams of those who idealized the Quinta da Marinha's future where living with quality is something that is not to be confused with luxury.
It has been one of the most famous seaside resorts of Europe to spend summer and rediscover the pleasure of visiting this old fishermen's village, where in 1870 the Citadel accommodated Royalty and the court had summer palaces and Manor houses to relax and enjoy at the seaside promenade.
The Atlantic resorts of Estoril and Cascais - which along with nearby Sintra make up Portugal's so-called 'Golden Triangle' is an excellent base for visitors to Portugal.
Within easy reach of the capital, Lisbon by train from Cais-do-Sodre station both Estoril and Cascais, (less than 30 minutes apart on foot) has long been the preferred getaway of rich Lisboetas and wealthy European visitors.
Known as a haunt of international spies in World War II and later hideaway of various pretenders to European thrones, Estoril is now a palm-fringed, pastel playground of the well-off and well connected, drawn by a winning combination of Europe's largest casino, a range of first-class hotels and some superb golf courses. Praia de Tamariz is the lovely beach at the centre of the town, with showers an ocean swimming pool and a number of good bars for a sun-downer along the promenade one hour walk from Cascais to S. João do Estoril, where you can jog, do a yoga class, cycle or just lazy on one of the many lounge sidewalk cafés.
Estoril plays host to the Estoril open tennis tournament in April - an important clay-court warm-up for the French open and the Estoril Golf course has held the PGA Portuguese open. Throughout other nearby golf courses you can find the Quinta da Marinha, Penha Longa, Quinta da Beloura, Belas Clube de Campo or the Tróia Golf course.
More vibrant, younger and less exclusive than nearby Estoril, Cascais is famed for its traditional black and white calçada wave-patterned pavements, fine seafood restaurants and lively seafront street cafes. The main bar and restaurant strip is centered on the pedestrian Rua Frederico Arouca and the more raucous Largo Luis de Camoes. There's a colorful market every Wednesday on Rua do Mercado, an early morning fish market between Praia da Ribeira and Praia da Rainha.
The Parque Marechal Carmona is a pleasant open space containing the nineteenth century stately home of Irishman Jorge O'Neill - the Museu Condes de Castro Guimarães. Also worth a visit is the Museu do Mar (sea museum) which charts the area's connections with the sea.
The area's main beaches lie between Estoril and Cascais or you can trek out to wind surfers' paradise at Praia do Guincho - a large but unshadow and somewhat dramatic stretch of fine beach 6km west of Cascais, which has played host to the World Surfing Championships. Cascais big bash is the Festas do Mar in August with a procession of colorful fishing boats. There's a jazz festival in July, the Cooljazz Festival and summer fireworks on Saturday evenings.
