The Costa del Sol is well known as a cosmopolitan holiday region for sunseekers and golfers alike. There is so much to see in this beautiful part of Spain. We have only explored a tiny part of it (so far), and will never tire of the beauty of the landscapes or the friendly and laid back attitude of the Spanish people!
Average temperatures on the Costa del Sol range from 9-17C in the winter up to 30C in July and August, which makes it ideal for traditional summer holidays and also great if you are searching for winter sun.
No description of the Costa del Sol, would be complete without mentioning the golf - and there is lots of it!! Within easy reach of the apartment there are at least: 2 courses within two minutes drive - including the new Finca Cortesin with Jack Nicklaus Golf Academy; 17 courses within 30 minutes drive - including San Roque and Valderrama; a further 19 courses within one hour's drive. So that's a 38-day golfing holiday already, without taking into account any rest days!
There are buzzing resorts like Marbella and exclusive ports such as Puerto Banus and Sotogrande within easy reach, as well as historic Malaga, the birthplace of Picasso.
The city of Seville is a two hour drive from the apartment and Cadiz, Jerez de la Frontera (the home of sherry and Spanish brandy) and Granada (home of the Alhambra Palace) are also achievable in a day. You can ski in the Sierra Nevada (Granada region) during the winter.
Ronda is also well worth a trip – set high in the mountains and spanning a river gorge which is 130m high makes for some spectacular scenery. The tourist information centre is next to the bull ring, where you can also take a horse and trap ride around the cobbled streets of the old town.
Gibraltar is one of our favourite day trips. (Don’t forget passports and UK money!) As well as duty free shopping, a trip to the Upper Rock to see St Michael’s Cave, the Apes and the siege tunnels is well worth it. The views from the Upper Rock are amazing.
The Casares Costa area
The Casares region of Andalucia, between Estepona and Manilva is an excellent base for a holiday in this diverse region. Significant investment in new properties and the infrastructure in the area ensure that it is a relatively new holiday destination and unlike the older and traditional holiday resorts, the area is not particularly built up.
The nearest towns are Sabanillas (5 minutes), Duquesa (10 minutes) and Estepona (10 minutes). All provide a variety of shops and boutiques as well as beaches, children's play areas and numerous restaraunts and cafes. Duquesa and Estepona each have a beautiful marina.
Within a short drive from the apartment there are attractions aimed at families with younger children such as Monte Selwo Aventura safari park, Torremolinos zoo, various aquaria and Tivoli World Theme park.
