Home description
This spacious villa has an open plan lounge/dining area with top grade furniture and a large modern kitchen with Bosch appliances. The two master bedrooms on the first floor each have en suite facilities and private terraces with wonderful views. The two downstairs bedrooms open out on to the garden and pool and share a large shower room and WC.
The property is a few hundred yards from the clubhouse which serves excellent breakfasts, lunches and dinners. The small supermarket at the golf course entrance 400 yards away bakes its own bread and croissants daily and has a wide selection of wines and adequate selection of groceries. Two good supermarkets are 1 km and 2 kms away on the outskirts of Lagoa and Carvoeiro respectively. Lagoa has a winery and a good daily market and good coffee shops and restaurants. Carvoeiro is busier, but has many restaurants at all prices and catering for all tastes.
The old Moorish capital of the Algarve, Silves, is 20 minutes' drive away and still off the main tourist beat. Heading east or west from Silves takes you to the undiscovered Algarve with lovely villages, winding roads and cheaper meals. Or strike inland towards the Monchique mountains for views.
The A22 motorway makes the villa about one hour's drive from Cape St Vincent to the west, with wild areas and huge surfing beaches (a bit like a warm Cornwall!) and a similar distance to the Spanish border to the east, with lovely villages along the Guadiana River.
A lot of the Algarve province is actually protected as National Parks or wild life reserves.: the guidebooks are in the villa.
This all makes this villa a great place for a relaxed break, mixing trips to the unknown Algarve with golf, swimming in the pool or simply having a BBQ or a great meal out. Being 1,000 miles due south of the UK guarantees better weather: Carvoeiro statistically has over 300 days of sunshine a year, and we have eaten outdoors even on Christmas.Day.
Casa Florida Pool Area with BBQ to right: a great area for casual entertaining
View over fairway from the villa - no houses crowding in here
The elegant entrance hall
Local Coastline, great for walks either on the cliffs or down on the quiet beaches

The Algarve / Central Algarve region
The Central Algarve is 1,000 miles south of the UK, with an average of 300 sun-filled days per year. The Atlantic breezes take some of the sting from the summer heat, yet the winters are mild.
The Algarve was successively under Roman, Moorish and Christian domination, and has retained features from all three with vines, olives, almonds and carob orchards. Fishing and Cork were the main industries, but tourism and up-market sports such as golf and sailing have overtaken these traditional industries. The fish is fresh and excellent, the coastline stunning and the local wine gets better every year. Standards across the board have increased dramatically, in line with the Portuguese Government's strategy to to make the Algarve 'the California of Europe'.
Carvoeiro / Pestana Golf Resort Gramacho area
Lagoa is the nearest town, with a great local market and good coffee shops and a gentle pace of life. Carvoeiro on the coast is busier, but has a great range of restaurants, to suit every taste and every purse.
The coastline is stunning, and is a contender for World Heritage status, with private coves and fantastic rocks, but beware - this is the Atlantic, not the Mediterranrean, and swim only where there is a lifeguard present. Many of these little coves have their own beach restaurants, details are in the villa, with previous guests' comments.
There are good walks along the cliffs to the east and west of Carvoeiro with great scenery and good local restaurants every few kilometres.
Pestana Golf has two good 18 hole golf courses, a David Leadbetter Golf Academy, tennis courts and bowling. There is a par 3 pay and play 9 hole course at Vale da Milho about 4 kms away which is great fun for all the family.
How to get there
Arrive Faro Airport which is served by virtually all the low cost airlines and by BA. A taxi can be pre-booked at competitive rates, or hire a car from one of many rental companies (we can advise of our experience of both options). The drive from Faro to Casa Florida is mainly on an excellent motorway, the A22, exiting at Lagoa/Silves. The villa is about 3 kms further, located on the Gramacho Golf Course run by the excellent Pestana Group, who also run the Portuguese national Pousadas. We will supply detailed driving instructions on receipt of a booking. Our average time from Faro Airport is 40 minutes.

Further details indoors: We built the villa to the highest standards, with a Scottish surveyor and a Portuguese architect, We wanted something that had echos of Moorish architecture (hence the atrium which acts to cool the villa in summer and warm it in winter), yet was comfortable for our eventual retirement. We wanted a comprehensive kitchen to be able to eat in, and a permanent built-in BBQ by the pool so that we could entertain indoors or out.
The bedrooms are of good size, with built in wardrobes. Our housekeeper is briliiant; she comes in 3 times a week within the villa rental, but may be able to do more if you wish. Our manager Teresa is a dynamic local landowner who also speaks excellent english.
Further details outdoors: The pool is oriented to take advantage of maximum sun and is looked after by Dario, who comes in once a week or to resolve any queries you may have. If you require heating we charge £200 per week and turn on the heating two days before you arrive so it's ready for you at 28C.
The garden is designed to give a mix of sun and shade and is looked after by a team of gardeners. Teresa will tell you when they come round: if you wish to change the timings, that can be arranged, but we do insist on maintaining the garden to a high standard. Automatic irrigation comes on in the small hours!
The BBQ is positioned to give great views of Algarve sunsets.
