The Algarve / Central Algarve region
The algarve boasts over 100 miles of beaches all golden sandy in colour most of the larger beaches have lifeguards on through out the summer.There are also bars and cafes on most where you can sample the excellent food on offer and cold drinks.The beaches are free to use unless you hire the sunlounges or parasols then theres a small payment.The algarve is also known for its good weather for most of the year and its nightlife the area also has close links to the romans dating back to 2000bc and its fishing villages which are heaverly dotted along the coast.Theres also the roman walled city of lagos only minutes away and still has its cobbled streets and street side cafes bars .
Carvoeiro / Praia de Carveiro area
Carvoeiro was a small fishing village and in 1965 a tourist boom arrived with expensive villas and apartments being built on the outskirts.The village has retained its typical portuguses feel with its orignal bulidings and shops blending in with the modern apartments and villas.The coastline has several beaches and coves accessible only at low tide but also has a beautiful beach that has wheelchair access.There are two golf courses within 5 minutes of the apartment one being 36 holes.The village has an excellent tennis centre on the outskirts of the village.There are within 10 minutes from carvoeiro the famous zoo marine with its interactive dolphins and water slides.The village of pera has a sand festival every year starting in june and finishes in october artists from all over the world take part in designing the sand sculptures there also stalls selling hand made gifts to take home.The biggest water park in the algarve aqualand that has raging rapids,flying carpets,wave pool and many more water slides for the whole family only 5 minutes away.The festival of the sardine is held every august in most towns and villages celebrating the life of the sardine and thanking the sea for its survival.The village of ferragudo with its medieval houses still retains the unspoilt fishing village way of life is only a few minutes away were you can eat the typical portugese food fresh from the sea.
