The Algarve region
The Portuguese and the English have close ties through their seafairing history and the local people are generally friendly and helpful. English is widely spoken. The climate of the Algarve is very kind and you can expect warm and sunny weather from very early Spring to late autumn with hot weather in the Summer months. The Winter months provide a much improved climate to that of UK with lots of sun with the result that many Europeans overwinter there.
The South of the Agarve has numerous wonderful warm sandy beaches with beautiful rock pillars, caves, arches and clifftop walks . There is a profusion of olive groves, fig tees, vineyards and orange and lemon plantations. To the North there are huge areas of wilderness to explore with cork and Eucalyptus plantations and occasional tiny villages where you can see local people living the way they have done for centuries.
To the West there are huge wide beaches with powerful Atlantic rollers for great surfing. Trips to the beautiful old city of Lisbon or East into Spain make interesting days out. The Algarve is now one of the prime locations for Europeans to spend both their Summer and Winter holidays------that says it all!!
Carvoeiro area
Beautiful beaches are within walking distance and the swimming pool is superb. Tennis, golf, cliff top walks, SCUBA, horseriding , boat trips and boulle are all available closeby. There are a number of old ports -both Feragudo and Portimao are within a short distance and well worth visiting. There are two large local water parks which provide fun for adults and children alike. A drive West to the Lighthouse at Sagres makes a break from the beaches and then by turning North you can enjoy a delightful drive up the West coast. Then turn East and drive through the wild and rugged countryside filled with cork and Eucalyptus plantatations through Monchique en-route back to the villa. Try the driving range at Pestana golf course as a forerunner to a round at a local nine or eighteen hole course, or have a few games of tennis at Roch Brava.
How to get there
Fly to Faro airport in the Algarve with Easyjet or other low price airline and either drive or take a taxi or bus to Carvoeiro.
The journey takes one hour, is easy and straightforward and is along a new motorway. A map and directions will be provided for drivers.
Regular buses run to and from the villa to Carvoeiro town centre.
Low cost car hire can be provided as part of the package. The car will be awaiting your arrival at either Faro airport or in Carvoeiro-whichever you prefer.

A number of fabulous Algarve beaches with beautiful sand, caves, rock stacks and arches are within minutes of the villa. Clifftop walking directly from the villa provides spectacular views of the Atantic. A number of superb golf courses are available closebye including a 9 hole course within walking distance of the villa. A drive into some of the wilder and more spectacular Algarve countryside or a day trip to the Western tip of the Algarve peninsula or a visit to the beautiful city of Lisbon all make for wondeful adventures.. Economical car rental can be povided at additional cost. The car will be available at the location of your choice-Faro airport or Carvoeiro town centre. Dear Hugh, We had a wonderful two weeks and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. One of the most enjoyable parts of the holiday was sitting outside in the evenings over a leisurely meal just gazing at the view. The lighthouse is almost hypnotic and the view is one with which I could never grow tired. We had trips to the mountains and took in the sardine festival and have come back really relaxed and will remember our holiday with a great deal of warmth for a long time.
