The Algarve region
The Algarve averages 3000 hours of sunshine each year, more than the Costa Brava, Majorca and the French Riveria. The province is located in the far south of Portugal, bordered by the Atlantic on two sides and by mountains to the east. It stretches from the Spanish border westwards to Cape St,. Vincent. One hundred and fifty miles of Portugal's coast is formed by cliffrs overlooking numerous golden sandy beaches.
Places of interest to visit include the mountains of Monchique, Silves Castle and the capital of Portugal, Lisbon with its many historical buildings.
Carvoeiro was a small fishing village which despite some development has maintained its scenic appeal and is devoid of high rise buildings. It is extremely popular with families. It has two beaches, the main beach is a sandy golden beach cove from which jet skis and water sports equipment can be hired, together with parasols and sunbeds. Short boat trips can be taken to explore the nearby caves and isolated beaches. The second beach is Paraiso, it is smaller, but great for snorkelling.
Carvoeiro village has an abundance of restaurants, to suit all tastes and pockets, bars, cafes, banks, shops, a chemist, post office, doctors surgery and public transport facilities.
Two water parks are located within short drives and provide fun for the entire family. Zoo marine, where you can swim ewith dolphins, is a twenty minute drive away and is a great day out.
Many championship golf courses are nearby, including Gramacho and Penina, Vale de Milho, and five courses at Villamoura. Also the new Nick Faldo and Christe O'Conner course are fifteen minutes by car.
Carvoeiro clube de Tenis has numerous tennis courts and gym facilities and two diving schools are located near Carvoeiro.

"Snape Family Holiday - Algarve 2012"
'Don't judge a book buy the cover!' Externally this property does not look much, but once you step through the door it is a fantastic base for a family that wants to enjoy Carvoeiro. It is a spacious and well appointed property and when the pool goes in will be an ideal base for a family holiday. The design and style is well done and my family of 2 adults and three children (12, 15 and 17) all enjoyed the facilities offered and the space provided. It is ideally situated for the town and beach which are just two minutes walk away. The beach is quite small and can get quite busy (during August anyway) but there are rock pools at both ends for the children to explore with a array of crabs etc to catch. The sea is life guard patrolled and seemed very safe for older children (all mine can swim well so i was comfortable for them to go out a little way) Lots of people were snorkelling as well and I heard reports of fish shoals etc. You can hire boats to explore the caves in the cliffs and also pedallo's, water banana and jet ski's for hire. Carvoeiro is a quaint, rustic and traditional town, there is a good range of bars and restaurants to enjoy. We particularly like the Stone Steak restaurants at Monte Carvoeiro as well as Elliotts in the same area (just 5 minutes walk from the property. Each evening their would be live music in the town square at the top of the beach, so our routine would go out for supper and then head down to one of the bars for a few drinks to listen to the music and maybe have a dance as well. Do not go to this resort if you are looking for wild nightlife - it isn't that sort of place. We visited the water park, Slide and Splash, which is about 15 minutes away - we organised our trip with a local firm in the town and they charged 20 euros for the the return trip. It is a good modern waterpark, but it was packed and there were lots of queues. That said my children seemed happy enough and did not complain at all. I have been to the other older waterpark Aqualand in the past and this is also good and may be worth going to if you want somewhere that is less busy. Overall we had a lovely relaxing break, stayed in a nice and very convenient location that was perfect for our needs - we had some nice meals and found some nice bars to enjoy a cocktail or two!
