The Algarve region
Magnificent weather, beachiful sandy beaches, a stunning coastline and fantastic sporting opportunities all make the Algarve a very attractive holiday destination. Its consistent climate with more than 250 days of sunshine a year mean it is a popular destination outside of the main season. The Algarve is well-known for its golf courses, but horse riding, tennis, fishing, sailing and wind surfing are all very popular. If you are looking for more than just beautiful beaches and coastline, then drive just a few miles inland and you will discover something about Portugal's rich history. The domed church at Sao Lourenco near Almancil has a stunning interior, or enjoy a walk around the ancient walled castle at Silves, once the Moorish capital of the Algarve. Although its riches were stolen many years ago, the setting is still wonderful. A visit to Loule in the hills is a must; this traditional town of Moorish origin is famous for its regional crafts of copper-work, painted clay and brassware and holds one of the Algarve's best weekly markets. Vilamoura hosts the largest marina in the country with 1300 moorings, a fashionable place to soak up the atmosphere in one of the quayside bars or restaurants. Drive inland to the Monchique mountains, where the clean fresh air is scented by a mixture of cork, chestnut, pine and eucalyptus trees. Just before reaching Monchique, you will pass through Caldas de Monchique, a Roman spa where the water is reputed to have healing qualities, and you can try it free - but be warned, it is smelly! Back on the coast is Portimao, still a traditional sprawling town where there are some very good shops, but fishing is still its main industry. Try a lunch of barbecued sardines, fresh off the boats that morning. A short drive further and you will come to Lagos, one of the prettiest towns along the coast with a new marina and walkway alongside the coastal road.
Carvoeiro is a coastal resort in The Algarve, Portugal, lying some three miles south of Lagoa and is typical of this stretch of the coastline with its dramatic cliffs and white villas perched above. Fishing boats line the beach and the fish enjoyed in the restaurants are still landed here by the local fishermen.
The main beach, although small, is very attractive and Carvoeiro's shops, restaurants and bars are centred around it. The mild climate on the Algarve means that Carvoeiro remains a popular holiday destination throughout spring and autumn too.
Carvoeiro is a popular family resort for a holiday rental, but also has its share of nightlife for those seeking it. The area is rich in dramatic and beautiful beaches with intimate coves backed by high cliffs. Centianes, Carvalho (Smugglers Beach), Benagil, Marinha to the east and Aveiros to the west are all attractive beaches, with the cliffs near Algar Seco a must for experienced snorkellers. Ferragudo, further westwards has a long sandy beach with some watersports and there is a large water slide park (Slide and Splash) nearby. Golf is catered for with two good courses.

"Absolutely Perfect - but don't tell everyone!"
The first part of this review is about the apartment. It is fantastic. The layout and decor is first class. The pool area was perfect for us, we could lounge and sunbathe and keep a stress free eye on the kids. Inside there is everything you could possibly need, all of which are quality appliances. Great air conditioning. There are books and boardgames to keep children happy and if thats not enough there is free view tv. The town of Carvoeiro is a 5 minute walk away where there are lots of good restaurants and bars. Secondly, Debbie could not have been any more helpful. The booking and payment was uncomplicated. Debbie gave me detailed directions to the villa, and kept in contact regularly, also there is a villa manger, Michelle, who is on hand in case there are any problems. Will definitlely be going back!

When we arrived at the property, we were stunned by how spacious it was. It was beautifully decorated, immaculately clean and had everything we needed. There were 9 of us staying in the house and somehow we all managed to have enough personal space! Debbie and Michelle were very well organised. The pool was great, never too busy. There's an amazing bakery just outside the complex, where they sell the most AMAZING Porguese bread rolls and lots of beautiful cakes for very cheap. The property is 10 minutes walk from the beach, shops, bars, off licenses...everything you need. We all had the most amazing holiday and would DEFINITELY return to this house. I would recommend it to anyone.
